Video from Keller Farms in Burkettsville Ohio and they chop corn silage and fill one of their 148 foot tall silos.
The music clip used toward the end of this video is a Sound Effect called "Kickflip Medium". from iMovie which is the program I use to edit all my videos.

I spent more days and nights than I can count at my friend's farm off in the distance at 12:20 or so. I never actually realized how unique those silos were. Great video, Mike!

Hey Mike, I keep coming back to this video. I am very impressed with the Sollenberger silos. I researched the cost of building one of the 30x148 silos and it was about $120,000 with unloader system included. Those big boys should last a lifetime if not longer. In comparison a 25x90 Harvestore with unloader is about $210,000. Great video Mike!! Thanks.

Nice video Mike. Interesting to see how different silaging is in the US compared to here. Over here, I never saw silos like that being used for silage.

Awesome video Mike! Huge silos wow! There are still some used in this area as well, not that many. That must be very nice feed green silage in the middle of winter!

I didn't know that any company built forage silos this tall. Those are some great looking silos! I researched them on the Sollenberger Silos website. The walls are 6" thick and I am going to assume they were continuous pour concrete. The website said a 30x148' silo should hold 4,000 tons with density 2x that of a bunker. Would be nice to have a man lift elevator system! Always appreciate a neatly kept farm and that you got this video of the farm for all to enjoy. I had a New Holland Whirl-a-Feed 40, 1000 rpm blower and it may have been able to handle the 148' silo. It had tremendous force and capacity. Just a thought. My tallest silo was 60' but the NH 40 could handle it even with reduced rpm's. Usually ran a Famall 706 on it. Sometimes used an IHC 3388. Nice video Mike! Will wait patiently for the haylage video you mentioned!!

I wonder that sometimes also. If only they had to give an explanation on the dislike. It could just be something as simple as they don't like the brand of equipment in the video.

Dislikes are probably ag bag and bunk guys lol. I know this fella who owns the farm is in Silo Junkies. They recently switched all 3 silos to Valmetal "Hybrid" top unloaders. The "big jim" style didn't work out.

Thanks again Mike. They're still in business and have a lot of information on their website. We used to have trouble finding a good blower for our 80' Harvestore. That must be quite a blower they found to use for these silos. Sure sounds like a beautiful area you're at.

WOW 148' top unload! I have seen a Solenberger 30'x148' with a Flying Dutchman bottom unloader, the bottom 20' was a drive in spot on their website. But these take the cake! What is the diameter? Food for thought, tallest ladder truck I know of is 137' Built by E-One. Wow.

148 ft is huge. I thought that 80 to 90 ft was tops. Do they fill them all with corn or do they put hay in one?
@TheRealJesseStoltzfus
@TheRealJesseStoltzfus 2 жыл бұрын
They actually recommend to not build over 100’ if you’re going to fill it with haylage/triticale/etc. when you get to the bottom, it would be to packed and extremely hard for the unloader to feed out.

Mike, what kind of blower do they even use to get silage up a 148' tall silo?! I know they have had problems just getting up to 100', but 148' ... wowzers ... I kinda figured they had to use the old Gehl blowers. I loved them. Especially since I'm from WI. I miss Gehl choppers, wagons & blowers.

I wondered about that too. You would think there will be a lot of "juicing" coming out of the silo at the bottom. Are there perhaps drainage pipes in the foundation??
@craigthoennes2829
@craigthoennes2829 5 жыл бұрын
Gerard Heck still wouldn't want that mess. when a silo "runs" its a mess.
@switzerblitzer2701
@switzerblitzer2701 5 жыл бұрын
@@craigthoennes2829 Yeah Craig, I hear you. There can be a miniature "lake" around the silo with excess drainage. I recall a time when we had to clean up around a silo because of that. It would be interesting how the farm addresses that issue. There doesn't seem to be any drainage around the silo in the video. But then the silage at the bottom of the silo is going to be very wet when feeding out gets to that point....???? Curious....those are sure some impressive silos.
