Hi there! If you have a Pilea that is just not producing pups, then hopefully this video will help! Chopping it in half will actually encourage the mother plant to produce offsprings. The healthy top cutting can then be rooted. You will end up with two mother plants with potential to produce babies!

thanks I have two that are totally bear for like 10 inches, and at the top they have all these leaves. I've been thinking about chopping them for a long time because they just look so weird but I wasn't sure if that's what I was supposed to do. You have given me the strength and conviction to chop these bad boys and put them in some water. 😆

Nice video. Only thing is I don’t think you can prop pilea single leaves unless there’s a part of the main stem attacked to the leaf stem.

I was told by my friend who gave me one of her pups that this plant can be either male or female. A female will produce pups and the male will not. Pup production might not have to do with your care/light/water. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Great information, thanks for this video!
@SuchPlants

That’s interesting! I guess mine went from male to female 🏳️‍🌈 lol because it eventually produced pups on the stem… but not from the soil 🤔 so maybe it’s still a male haha. It’s okay I accept it for who it is 💚

So glad I found you! Literally looking for a video to save my sad looking pilea. Everything that happened to your pilea is happening to mine. I swear mine is fast asleep. If it’s dry she curls, if I water her she curls, changed her soil she dropped leaves. Ugh. So I wanted to chop mine in half and now Im ready to do it, I need to save her. I have a nice grow light she still hasn’t thrived. Put her in sunlight and still looks the same. Tomorrow I’m cutting her up! What exact soil mix and brand are you using? Funny thing… my pilea was attached to a chopstick (I have a bunch of plants hanging onto chopsticks lol)😁🪴
@SuchPlants
@SuchPlants 3 жыл бұрын
Hi!! I think more than anything, this plant takes a long time to acclimate. Whether it’s new soil, brighter light, etc. it just takes extra time before it can thrive. So if you find you’re changing things up often, maybe it just needs to be left alone haha. But definitely go for the chop! It’ll give both the cutting and mother plant a chance to reset. The soil is Dr. Q’s Filthy Rich Gold potting soil, which is a proprietary blend from Star Nursery here in NV, but the base mixture seems to be something like Ocean Forest soil plus cactus mix and that’s it. But in my transplant video you can follow what I did and add orchid bark, extra perlite, charcoal, and worm castings. Make sure you keep watering the mother plant when dry, and change the water from the top cutting at least once a week! Let me know how it goes. Good luck! 😆

@@SuchPlants you’re absolutely right! After this I’m letting it relax and do what it needs to do. I chopped my pilea this morning and I feel super good about it. Changed up my soil and used pumice, charcoal, compost, and bark. We’ll see how it goes. I’ll def give the soil a try if i can find some out here in Texas. Hope you have a great day out the in NV and stay cool! I have family out there and I hear it’s been hot. 😎😁

You mention that the leaves were curly. I grew a Pilea from a pup and soon noticed the curly leaves. I did a bit of research and decided that I was over-watering. I changed to watering every 9 days and the leaves quickly flattened out and have remained that way. However, the stems have become rather long, not unlike yours. I keep the plant in a bright window that gets a bit of sun in the winter, but none in Spring, Summer or Fall.

I had 120. plants as a10 year old. Never bug for my whole life! My pilea and all of my show worthy aloe family (50). All of Succulents were beautiful then leaves get smaller and smaller. The Aloes dead!! My heart! And this What my plant is doing. No pups. Not enough light and really pour soil. Plus I went through all the bugs. Normally I would have a shower that they go into and get a good rent when they're washed to get rid of anything. They're housing situation and their lack of being potted has done So much damage.

Hi Helena! Just wondering… was your meow meow part green or brown/barky? In my experience, if it’s more green, then it’s still actively drinking water before it starts pushing roots, so it will just take a bit more time. Just make sure to change the water at least once a week. Add a couple drops of Superthrive with each water change and make sure she gets good bright, indirect light. Also, as long as you don’t see anything mushy on the mother plant, you should be fine. It just takes lots of patience!

Whats a doormat phase?
@SuchPlants
@SuchPlants 2 жыл бұрын
Flowering plants usually go through a dormant phase when the season changes, so they stop growing while conserving energy until temperatures improve again and then they will grow and push out flowers. Christmas/thanksgiving cacti are a good example. However, other typical houseplants can go dormant in the winter too, and you’ll see it in yellowing and falling leaves because the air is colder, less hours of sunlight, etc. But they bounce back in the spring! That’s why it’s super important to try to mimic a plant’s natural habitat to promote growth all year round. 😎
