This is exactly what I did yesterday, 2 of my Succulent got pretty tall I set it outside partially in Sun all day in 105 degrees. It grew pretty tall. I snipped it off to the bottom of the stems. The leaves I just pre soaked the soil and placed the leaves downward not too deep. Placed in the window inside. I never water them until the soil is completely dried. I also have some sitting under the shade but full Sun all day( not direct Sun) they seems to do pretty well. Thank you for the tips!

Definitely agree, love her videos. I’ve started a ‘death garden’ (a la Laura Eubanks here on KZbin...which I definitely think should be called a second chance garden), where I put all my succ stems that I’ve cut the rosettes/plucked the leaves from to see if they’ll prop. It’s hit or miss, but since it requires so little care and they can go in my ugly plastic pots from the garden store out of the way, why not try it!?

I was given a succulent from my friend and I was having the hardest time identifying what type it was cause it was elongated. I thought it was some weird one that wasn't common. Ends up, I had a Graptosedum, and due to the rookie mistake of owning one for the first time, I overwatered it because I thought they liked lots of water. I ended up killing it and the leaves fell off, BUT I did some research and now I have 3 leaves propogating from the old plant into new plants in front of a window that I keep cracked and space open so fresh air and lots of sunlight can get to them. I am more knowledgeabe after watching this video considering I'm 17 and am just now getting into plant studies. Thank you so much for making this video exist. :) (March 6th, 2021)

I saw another video where a guy went to Home Depot and asked if he could have the succulent leaves that had dropped from the plants and fallen on the floor (that they were just going to sweep up and throw out - he had video of tons of them just laying on the ground under the tables in the garden center) and they told him absolutely, he could have them. How cool is that?!? All you have to do is ask sometimes. :-)

Only a few of mine grow long, but I can't do much to fix it because living in the UK (and the positioning of my house/garden compared to the sun) means it's pretty dark most of the time :(

Hello, Teresa. May I know what's the species of the succulent shown in 0:49?
@ChopstickandSucculents6 жыл бұрын
Aryen Targ Echeveria pulvinata ‘Ruby’
@aryentarg99616 жыл бұрын
@@ChopstickandSucculents thank you! :) I have that one but, sadly, it's not at all ruby in color. 😅
@ChopstickandSucculents6 жыл бұрын
Aryen Targ it needs good amount of light in order to become colorful. Less nutrients in soil and infrequent watering. When it’s cold, the color becomes more vivid.

Question: Should the soil be moist when you plant these? I know you said, "no watering", but do you need to pre-moisten it?

Following...need info on this.. Can someone pls share
@GardengalAAA4 жыл бұрын
No you put them in soil and don’t water for about a week. The reason is you want the roots to have time to mend before watering. If you have props that don’t have ample roots, just plop them on top of soil, be patient, leave it alone and it will eventually grow roots. I do put drops of water by the roots on my props to give them moisture. I don’t mist my props only because I’ve had leaves that got mushy and translucent and then they rot. You don’t want water sitting on top of the leaf props.

Thanks so much for the video! I use a bone dry gritty mix and after cutting the rosettes I plant them immediately. How long do you think I should wait before their first watering?
@ChopstickandSucculents6 жыл бұрын
Alex Jenson I usually wait for 2 weeks before I water.

Wait... tye rosette doesnt need to be dried out first?
@ChopstickandSucculents6 жыл бұрын
Linh Phùng yes, you can plant them directly in the soil. The trick is not to water them for a week or two. I’ve been using fresh cuttings for my arrangements and they are all fine as long as they are not watered. The soil is already a bit moist sometimes, that’s why they look plump the next day but not enough to cause them to rot.

Does this apply to jade plants too? I have a young (maybe 6 or 7 months old) one, the stems are still very green and fleshy as opposed to starting to look like tree trunks. Its gained a solid inch or so since October, in the gloomy British winter! But it sits on a windowsill and is near my SAD lamp that puts out 10,000 lux when it's on first thing in the morning. Also I have a haworthonia sat by it on the windowsill that has produced a pup this winter, so I assume it must be getting enough light?
@ChopstickandSucculents6 жыл бұрын
Some succulents, especially those that are naturally green does not elongate much compared to the very colorful ones.
