Thank you! I have an echeveria that I saved from my wedding bouquet. It's been growing strong and healthy for 3 years and I've propagated a few leaves into new baby plants but only a few survived. This summer though, the mother plant decided to grow about 6 or more baby offshoots between the leaves! I wasn't sure how to separate them from the mother, so this video helped. Unfortunately about 80% of the mother plant seems to have died....it has a nice rosette of leaves at the top, but all the leaves below that are squishy and shriveled. I think I let the babies grow too long from mother....they're actually quite large and most have touched the soil because of their weight, they all have nice full rosettes and the tips of the leaves are a lovely blue/purple color. I'm going to separate the babies to grow on their own, and do what I can to remove dead leaves from the mother while leaving that nice rosette on top and see how it goes.

I love how you have such a calm energy, I'm in southwest florida my mom just moved to Arizona, and we've always been so close. At 20 you think your ready for anything but with her being so far for the first time I suddenly realized I didn't know as much as I thought; she left me her plants, and when I stated missing her I took therapy in the plants! Recently have been adding to a growing succulent collection and trying to propagate my first batch of 10 leaves, I wake up everyday and check to see if they have roots! I also grab my computer and sit outside watching your videos! Love the way you talk about the plants and also filming style! It's nice to listen while I'm playing/moving around my "lil baby" succulents. Being in Florida's 70% humidity has been a learning curve for me with these plants! In my opinion, it is good if we can change the soil during first repotting, after buying it from supermarkets. I found that the soil they use is not suitable for long term. Nice collection you have there! Hello from Malaysia! ❤️

Prasenjeet Saha actually, that is just how the plant grows! You can tell that a plant is etiolated if it’s leaves have a lot of space between them, which Lolas do not. Look up pictures on google, and you’ll see :)

I had a west facing screened porch :) I had to turn her a LOT! The plant was a few years old and I never topped it so it just kept stacking up leaves lol! And I use the 6 bulb T5s here but I only have 2 bulbs on most of the time so you can get the 4 bulb and it should be plenty! amzn.to/2ZnL6dM

I have an echeveria that needs to be repotted and separated. There are probably seven rosettes total. The stems are VERY long. When you mentioned the video to let it form a callous and dry out, how long does that take? Should the cuttings be kept in sunlight?

Thanks for watching!! So I'm on the 'don't water till roots' side of the fence. If they don't have roots, they have no way to take in water. Misting leaves does nothing but make them wet and they don't really like having wet leaves. Once the cuttings are dry, you can pot in damp soil, but again, no roots = no drink. The moisture may help keep them fresh if it's really hot out or if they weren't hydrated before being propagated, but without roots, they have no way to take in he moisture. Unless they're lithops and similar species that can absorb moisture through all of their surfaces... and you really don't want to get those wet!

You could use a small spoon to remove most or your little rocks. I use one and it does come in handy. You should give it a try. It also save your fi her nails

Hi, great video, quick question, when taking off pups or sproutlings (hahaha) to replant, you let them sit out to calice over, but how about the parent plant. In addition, for aloes, does this also apply to both pups and parent plant. With regards to jade plants, you let the leaves dry out and supposedly put then on top of wet soil and water once till they root, is this true? I have a jade that I got from walmart. Was about 2" tall, now it's about a foot tall and want to grow more from the leaves. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Always let anything that has been cut or compromised callous before introducing water, damp soil, or any soil for that matter, to reduce fungal/bacterial infection ;)

I had cut off my baby succulent from its mother at the midway point of the stem ? The cut was not up against the mother plant stem :( Now my mother plant has random stems sticking out from its main stem . I am worried the stems will hurt my mother succulent such as rot ? Since the cut portions of the stems are covered in soil . Should I pull the plant out again and cut the excess stems sticking out ? thank you!!

I love your videos, so much good information. I just started with succulents and I'm so glad I found your videos because they were sure to meet a quick demise with my over watering. I pulled them all out of the wet soil and I'm mixing some new soil for them now. I just bought them from Home Depot last week. I live in Tampa, FL and the days are already up to between 85 and 95 degrees. We haven't had much rain yet, our rainy season is usually mid to late summer. My question is, can I put these succulents and cacti in the morning sun or do you think it's too intense and will burn them? I currently have them on my screened lanai where they only get indirect light, no direct rays and I'm concerned they won't get enough light. I was going to attach pictures but there's not an option here in the comments section.

It was a baby :) Not all Echeverias produce offsets like that but E. prolifica does!

That tends to be a flower, not an offset... look up terminal flowers in Echeverias :)

I'm new to succulents and my neon breaker started making tons of babies. I watched a video and the guy said to just use a little force and pull the pup off. He really seemed to put some strength behind it if it didn't come off easily. My first three removed easily, but the fourth showed a little resistance. I remembered the video and so used a little force...and the stem snapped right in half. I was really bummed, thinking I had killed my pup. But I stuck it in some soil anyway. Three months later, that thing is still alive in its little baby pot. But now I have three or four more pups to pull off and I'm worried about doing it wrong again. To KZbin I go! Edit: One thing this video didn't answer, which is the question I mostly have, is when do you know a pup is ready to remove?

Sometimes a pup can stay on the mother plant forever- so it's up to you to decide if you want to remove it and try to root it or allow it to stay in place until it roots on its own - if it's a type that will. Some just branch, some offset and divide on their own :)

I've seen some new leaves coming out of my haworthia, but I dont know if I should remove them as in separate them or not. I mean what's the criteria, why not let them all grow together?

You can leave them together or separate them to make more room in the pot or give some away :)

Do you let the babies callus up prior to reporting as per usual? Mind you I just separated my pups from my zebra plant yesterday; it’s confusing my because they all have roots!) I knocked off a ton of the pokey parts so please be careful people!!!)

Yep! Any open 'wounds' need time to heal or else pathogens can enter the plant.

Yes u do, at least to get the establisbing root system ...but they do regrow roots so technically...no. But chances are u will damage them more.

Thank you! It's safe for them to be dry but protect from too much light until it's dry enough to be repotted.

If water/bacteria enters a cut, it can cause rot. Even if it already has some roots...

There might be a couple of weeks where the temps stay in the 40s ... you may want to put them somewhere warmer while still providing good light. If you can't give them good light, cut waaaay back on watering before it gets cold to induce dormancy ;)

What's the difference between an Echeveria Blue Rose and an Echeveria Lola? I have a succulent that looks very similar to the two but I can't figure out which one it is. Does care vary between either plant type?

You should check the cut ends and wait until they're callused over - no green, no sign of moisture

Before I saw this video, I divided some succulents by just using a hand shovel and then I just stuck the new half in a pot and watered it. Should I take them out and let them dry to form a callous?

Those zebra ones I have two they are so cute! I find a bit of shade is best for them. The planter I have bear my rosemary giving only a bit of shade that one is greener than my other planter in full sun is gone all grey color I’ll move to a more shady spot.

Can I ask about how long did it take for the succulents to grow offshoots that big? Particularly with the Echeveria Lola. Maybe I'm just really impatient, but I just feel that if there are offshoots that's a sign I'm not killing my plant. Thanks!

It was a fairly mature plant so well over a year old. You can remove some of the lowest leaves to encourage babies :)

One of my succulents 'Jasmine' looks a bit like Echeveria Prolifica but i'm not too sure.. She's not in the best condition right now though. She flowered a few weeks back, i think the flowers were white if i remember correctly - those flowers were at the ends of those long ones in a batch that died within about 3 days. I don't know what kind of Echiveria it is but you got any idea of what?

I'm not sure! The white flowers don't ring a bell. Flowers can be a strain on the momma so hopefully she cheers up again :)

Hi, maybe, but I got them indoors for the summer, and kept them in a bright spot with no direct sunlight to avoid heat. My senecia mountain fire has outgrown it's pot and has small pups. They were all placed in the same spot.
