It must be a little different feeding calves where the old stanchions were (compared to 2014 and before). The calf barn at my uncles' farm was one of my frequent hideouts, not only because the calves were there, but the fridge full of pop was as well. It has been a long time since I stepped into that space, but it is still standing and in use. Between that, the hay mow, and the machine shed, I always had plenty of things to explore. Whenever I visit the farm, I can't help but follow a little of that old routine. Thanks for rekindling some memories.

Thanks for a very enjoyable video Ryan. We use creep feed our beef calves and I loved climbing in and dumping the feed in their bunks and having them all crow around to get to the feed. Well till they got close to weaning age @ 500#s then it was watch my toes GUYS, LOL!

Hello from the other side of the other side of the world..the Philippines. I am an American expatriate living here now and just started a farming/business related vlog. I raised calves which I bought at auction or directly from the dairy. I have a suggestion. because you are feeding a lot of calves a really easy way to mix the milk is to use an old washing machine. Easy to fill as it is automatic..just add the replacer when it is full of water.

We used the whisk that came with the powder. A new whisk might go up to the house and be used in the kitchen.

sorry..sent the first before I was finished writing..anyway. .the temperature of the water and the amount is easily controlled by the settings on the machine. put on wash cycle and it will mix very well in about 1 minute. turn to spin cycle after its mixed and it will pump out the milk into your bucket as needed. the machine is easy to clean after useing it..just put though another automatic cycle.

When I was a child on our dairy farm I tasted everything, figured if the animals could and would I would try it also. I tasted dog food, cat food, silage, corn silage, pig pellets, cow feed, milk replacer, etc.

Hey ryan I know you do a good job of feeding, but I have this one thing, I have to ask! Insteading of putting milk in after the water, why don't you put the milk in first, so you want have to mix it up a's much, to make it easier? But inerways good job of feeding, a nice looking calves.

You would have issues with 1) Sanitizing it. matters a lot. 2) Portion control. matters a lot. 3) Individual animal inspection. Herd health is a big deal, and nothing beats personal visual inspection. Even down to how playful the calves are, how quick they come to the feed, etc. Socializing calves to human contact has value as well. Friendly cows are more pleasant to work with. And happy animals are more productive. Like all young things, they are more vulnerable. Since they are big relative to say, dogs, it's easy to forget those ones are probably all less than a month old. Nice looking young animals there though!

Thanks for the video we use an 18% calf starter to get them going it is a sweet feed which they like it very much. When cleaning the bottles do you use any Clorox or Dawn soap to cut the grease out of the bottle after the milk was in it. We found it cuts down on the bacteria keeps the healthier calves gaining weight. Have a great day

Isnt it more efficient to have groups of 5 cows in a room with straw. Here in holland they are mostly sitting alone in a sort of cage or in bigger groups not on chaines.
