Now that public (ie destination) charging is increasingly available everywhere pretty much, why are SAIC mucking about with fossil fuel powered cars ? Very short term thinking. Compelled by the design and very clever compactness but to me pointless petrol/ electrics engine(s) in a small car. 62 to the gallon hmm my old Zafira diesel would do that . BTW that was relegated (but not disposed of) to be replaced by an MG4 , not perfect ( what car is) but at about 2p per mile 11k miles plus now in 18 months, is far more worthwhile IMHO

Because SAIC still make the best selling ICE car in China. Also theres still demand for cheap hybrid.
@TerryHickey-xt4mfАй бұрын
It does seem most traditional car makers are going the hybrid way recently, mainly because they can still keep using their ice tec and make money plus appeal to the doubters.

@@hasan_z Then i guess it shouldn’t be so Bad, Id only be concerned of future trade in value.

Good cars but it needs at least 7.5kwh battery to be truly useful and efficient around town
@koreya40154 ай бұрын
It'd be a plug-in hybrid then which would bring the price of the car up more
@fasttracklap84804 ай бұрын
it's a full hybrid. a yaris has 0.9 kwh ! a prius plug in has 8.8 kwh ! that's the main point of a full hybrid ! a small battery ! and it is miles ahead of a bev or plug in hybrid ! you can do 2litres/100km in town ! it sips gasoline ! what do you want more ?! no gasoline ? you would still charge it with electricity made from coil or nuclear or whatever stuff ! it's just taking the polution from your tail pipe and delocalizing it else where ! with the added hassle of charging it, planing road trips ! full hybrid, none rechargeable is the real deal.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIu4Yadsa9p0jNUsi=OS_RkRkJGg0Rn064 it is on electric most of the time ! and it is your own electricity from the car ! and it doesn't consume all that much to make it ! 2 3 liters with a fuel tank of 40 liters, you would have to fill it up till the end of the month ! don't underestimate the full hybrid option, it might be the best

a bigger battery would make it more expensive and compete in price with the MG4 which has a 50kwh battery.
@MrSensible24 ай бұрын
In addition to extra cost, a bigger 7.5kWh battery would add significantly more weight. As I see it, the problem with a lot of today's automotive tech, be it BEV, PHEV or HEV, is that all that extra weight compromises the very thing you've trying to improve on which is fuel economy. My very basic, ultra lightweight Suzuki regularly returns 70+ mpg & it's done it consistently over 8 years of ownership. It's the most efficient car I've driven in 45 years of being behind the wheel. It weighs in at a mere 835 kg! Sometimes the neatest technical solutions are the simplest ones...

Compare with a petrol car , that you step into, turn ignition key , and drive off. Simples!
@ChorleyGroup4 ай бұрын
This is just as easy, if not more so. You can jump in (keyless entry), press start button (no need to put key in ignition), and then twist the gear selector to D (no clutch to press). What's so hard about that?

@billweaver6092 Sounds like you would be happy with a donkey and cart to get around to be fair.

And where do you think most of the components in your 'European' ev come from or indeed is built? Mini, Volvo, lotus , smart etc. Ridiculous comment.
