i come back to this so often, he makes it sound like he's really remembering it all and he's reacting to his own words. they saw this scene over and over again and he still made them cry, what a talent

Like so many here - I too, also come back to watch this very often. A brilliant audition: I don't think anyone could ever do this even nearly as well as Jason did. No wonder he had everyone in tears on the panel of judges (together with those who have commented here). An awesome and exceptional performance. I hope he's still getting a lot of work. An amazing talent, for sure.

Luckily he's accrued a lot more Broadway credits since, but it's crazy to think this was only his debut...certainly one of the many things that made his audition special ❤️🌟🕺🏻

I would have loved to have seen the dance section of his audition. His acting was spot on and he's the most handsome "Paul" I've seen. I love how this show resonates with young performers some 43 years after the original production.

As a former Paul, Jason was amazing! He of course made me and all of them cry. But part of their crying was for Nick Dante, and Michael, and all the people we lost to AIDS. And by contrast, how young and hopeful and healthy this young generations is. It's was just so touching and nostalgic and bitter-sweet...

Can't watch this without crying. I worked as a chorus boy in the Jewel Box Revue he's talking about. I wasn't in drag only because I never had any interest in it, but many of them were terrific talents and all of them were perfectly good performers.

I caught this documentary accidentally some years ago and it moved me so much. The work, talent and dedication of these performers blew my mind. This scene with Jason brought me to tears because as much as he was playing the part of Paul you know a piece of him was there as an Asian/Pacific Islander in the arts. I'm sure he was amazing in the role and those who got the opportunity to see him were fortunate indeed.

I saw the revival and I’m pretty sure he was in the performance (I’m assuming it was him and not an understudy). During his scene, the entire theater was dead silent aside from lots of sniffles just like here. It was the emotional center of the whole production.

I was debating what documentary I wanted to watch today and I came so close to clicking off this one. SO GLAD I didn't! That moment when Jason auditioned for Paul was one of the most enthralling things I have ever seen in my life. I must have gone back and watched it 10 times already, and now I am on youtube searching for other work he has done. It was so entertaining and emotional watching him do that scene, and then to get the reactions he got from the casting directors was the icing on the cake. Ngl my t-shirt is still soaking wet.
