Bass Clone has a great sound, but can be too much at times. CE-5 is more subtle and with the EQ and blend controls is more useful IMO on a board. Great comparison video!

The EHX comes in first. Runner up is the NUX. Julia does not lose any bass, but is weak in intensity.

The EHX just has the nirvana tone I can't escape loving. The lfo sweep on the Julia never sounds quite right to me. Red witch Medusa has become my favourite as it lets you shift the base delay time and get deep EHX or crisper Boss style. Plus the preamp is flattering in an 80s way. As a youngster I had a CE2-B and never used it, hated the brown aesthetic which made the sound secondary! Why boss, why? FUZZ BEFORE CHORUS IS THE WAY

it’s really hard to say which one sounded the best. they all sounded very different with the same settings. but i think the ce-2b the bass clone and the newer boss were the best. hard to say though. personally i would probably just pick the cheapest one, but also with chorus there’s a fine line between sounding great and sounding absolutely terrible. i usually can’t get it to sound exactly how i want and just give up

😅 don’t give up! (Peter Gabriel reference…). Yes, they all sound good. But to my ears the walrus is slightly more refined and warmer sounding.

I have the Bass Clone and love it for it's simplicity, but I will also admit to fan loyalty as 10 of the 13 pedals on my board are EHX. The Boss pedals seemed to be the most subtle of all through each setting you demoed. The NUX sound pretty good with a bit of brightness to it. I didn't like the sound of any of them with the rate maxed out. I rarely use my Bass Clone with the rate higher than the depth. The Julia sounds beautiful! There was a fullness and I want to say bottom boost that the others didn't have. Not that the others lost low end, but the Julia sounded more low end full. I'm pricing one now! Great demo! Glad your video showed up in my recommendations!

Excellent observation, yes the Julia has a more luscious low end and is generally “sweeter” then the others.

I'm in the camp of "I love chorus on bass!" Bass clone is as classic as it gets. Also, ok..that Julia is just beautiful and may make my wallet sore some day soon 😱 The Nux is waaay cooler than its price tag may suggest. Very bucket brigade-ish!

The julia had the most consistently good sounds to my ear but oddly (i have the ehx bass clone and the boss ce-2b) the nux was my next favourite, it held the low end really well

Hi! Yep, I agree with you about the Nux. However I find its chorus too “chorusy”, as in lacking “charm” or personality. The Julia on the other hand has to most subs out of all of them and definitely a spirit of its own. It’s the one I kept, along with the CE-2B just in case.

I liked the sound of the Nux the best. Julia was too subtle and the Bass Clone was a little too much. The CE5 comes in second from what I hear here but its the one out of these five I'd be most likely to get because its stereo and to me that is where chorus does its magic. However, I already have a Mr. Black Vintage Ensemble stereo chorus/vibrato that I really like a lot so I'm not really chorus shopping anymore. I enjoy your videos and playing as always.

When it comes to fuzz and envelope filter it's easy. There are certain things I look for. Like a clean blend knob, a certain fuzz quality that can be used to create synth sounds, etc. But with chorus... 😁 Currently I'm using a TC Electronic unit with the Duff McKagan template. It's rather subtle I suppose. A more hardcore chorus user would have a more specific sound in mind for a chorus pedal.

Yep, chorus can be used either as a discrete or intrusive effect. I prefer a more subtle use of it, the kind that you realize was on once you turn it off… 😉

Debo admitir que me sorprendió el sonido del Nux para ser un pedal económico. Tanto el Boss CE-2B como el CE-5 tienen un efecto mas sutil desde mi punto de vista, con la capacidad de ser mas acentuado pero para esto tienes que llevar los settings al máximo. Mi favorito y el que tengo en mi pedalboard es el EHX Bass Clone, desde que lo pisas resalta el sonido del bajo, tal vez para algunos es muy exagerado pero para mi así es como debe sonar un chorus. El Walrus se me hace que es para todos los gustos, desde algo sutil hasta algo extremo. Una vez mas me quedó con el EHX Bass Clone. ¡Gran video!

EHX Bass Clone is the only pedal on my board that never ever left it since it landed, and the only pedal I used on every single gig from noise to jazz :D In comparisons it can easily sound like too much, that is why in real use you tune some stuff down. Also it can be used as an awesome "deepener" of the sound. All 3 of my basses sound beefeir with that thing on.
