It doesn't even have to be a narcissistic person. It could be someone who shows all the qualities of a friend on the outside but wouldn't have your back when it counts. This is most people to be honest. These people can throw you off course with empty shells of friendship. I remember the master manipulator in my life during my youth would say something so outrageous, so twisted, so daringly and glaringly false that for a split second I wondered if I should believe it because, afterall, how could someone sane say something so ridiculous unless they believed it; and how could someone sane and an adult to boot, believe a blatant lie? And then, as I pondered the conundrum, I would see the monster's eyes glittering. I would feel the hideous tension in it's foul form and I sensed the great urgency as it waited for my acceptance of it's filthy illogic. It got a kick out of confusing me because I was still a child and innocent, not yet exposed to the world of evil and wickedness plus, it never entered my mind until much later that such creatures actually existed on planet Earth. I thought everyone (except the people on the News - the 'bad' people who broke the Law) were basically decent and respectable. Basically what we call human. It is that nasty glitter that convinced me each time to reject everything it said, no matter the consequences and as truth was anathema to the Thing, it was easy to simply not believe anything it said. And so it decided to attempt to ruin my reputation, but that's a story for another day. Ps. Didn't work. Thank The Lord.
