The average builder is dragging around 3 to 4 tonnes behind a 4wd ute. That's a rolling weight of around 6 to 6.5;tonnes. Then you need to be able to put materials on that. An electric car has trouble towing a basic trailer around, it drastically reduces its range. to make a ute like this still perform, you would need to add another tonne of batteries. How is that good for the environment? In the second hand market they are worthless and young tradies won't be able to afford it. Because the ores of the materials needed for modern electric vehicles contain such a small usable percentage, it requires mining and processing some 600 tonnes of "stuff" per tonne of useful EV battery. Euro 4 and 5 is clean as and making that happen makes needlessly complicated engine changes that reduce reliability. He wants like Euro 6c emission standard's and each one raises the price of the vehicle with R&D plus adding extra unnecessary shit to a motor. How we all head out of Sydney in EV's on a long weekend then thousands of us need to find a charger to recharge just doesn't compute. EV's will die a slow death. $1000 a year saving is a lie for real life use. Fast charging costs as much as petrol. Charging at home is coal fired but cheaper. The fastest you can charge your car at home by coal is 7.5kw about 30 amps on domestic supplies, and you need some serious upgrades to your home electricity to do this. if you want your car green powered from your 5kW solar system only it will take DAYS to charge it from empty. If you take that $1000 dollar lie even further consider the losses you have on resale which will be 10's of thousands over the short life of your car. Plus hiked insurance and praying your house does not burn down while your charging this world saving car.

Germany has stopped all Govt subsidies for EVs, and Joe Biden in US has just reversed the US Govt. mandates on introduction of EV cars, ICE vehicles are just fine now. Paul, I have a problem with EV’s. That being, our taxes pay subsidies and tax concessions for EVangelists to buy their new EV. I want my taxes to be spent on hospitals, schools, ndis, pbs, social housing, police, ambos, fireys and all the other important human services. You want to buy an EV? I have seen in only few days two of tesla parkt on the Side of the Road , Waiting for Assistant , as you now They are new. Charging is going to be a real problem, the more they are on the road. You don't ear when they passed you , I was nearly run over by one, no excuse, very Arrogant two Male, like the road is Ours . that is how they looked me. Very aggressive and Arrogant. That is the Future if we don't Keep Our Vehicle, and get what we want , Not what they want us to Have.

Secondly, businesses get a number of tax breaks/incentives/subsidies, call them what you will, for the purchase of EV's, over and above the usual business deductions allowed.

​@@peterfalconer-h3k If I recall, stamp duty in NSW is refunded for EVs, and there's a small subsidy (like $2000 or something) for new EVs over a certain amount. I don't mind the stamp duty one (stamp duty was supposed to be abolished with the GST anyway), but the car itself should not be subsidised. If anything, they should be subsidising ALL small, lightweight, efficient cars, since these damage the roads less than heavier cars (like most newer EVs). Set a maximum weight, length, width and and fuel/power consumption rate, and waive the rego taxes for the first 2 renewals, or something like that... or just don't give people discounts at all.
