Unfortunately, and within understandable reasons, the trajectory of his career has been undeniably affected by the incident with Rihanna. I remember the intense impact he had on the industry and culture when he came out. He was compared to many greats and was easily following the footsteps of other R&B stars, such as Usher. It's unfortunate to think about what could've been for a star like him. It's interesting to witness, but countless athletes/rappers have had similar cases and problematic pasts, yet the repercussions are nowhere close to matching what happened to Chris. Still, there haven't been many (mainstream at least) new R&B singers that came as the triple threat that he undeniably is-in vocals, dance and overall entertainment.

Omfg 🤦🏻♀️ People act like this man tried taking out the whole world. It’s so pitiful the way he’s portrayed. EVERYONE FUCKS UP ON LIFE! It’s just that, not everyone gets caught!!! He’s still being judged for shit that happened OVER a decade ago! I don’t condone hitting..and that goes for BOTH genders. What people failed to do, is look at the facts & the whole picture. Chris was still a teenager, but he handled it better than majority of teenagers would..shit even grown ass men! He didn’t run from it. He turned himself in…took responsibility for his actions. He didn’t try to fight it, or give his version of events. We all can see the kind of woman Rhianna is! She ain’t no pushover! I’ve seen her literally punch a fans hand bc he reached out to touch her as she walked by! So…there’s absolutely no doubt in my opinion, that she was hitting him too. He could of tried to get some of the blame off him, but he didn’t. While everyone was hating him & wanting to see him fail, he wasn’t trying to get revenge or go along with all the negative energy. Instead he said, “if they’re gonna talk about me, I’ll give them a reason to talk.” Which he did! He got better & better! This man isn’t even a triple threat! He’s beyond. He’s so insanely talented & the beauty of it all, he’s humbled. Many people compare him to MJ..some think he’s better (I agree) but Chris says “not even close.” Gives all credit to MJ (respectably so) & that he learned from him. I can understand why he’s hated on so much, bc there isn’t ANYONE on that MANS level! No one. Even a former enemy of Chris said “he is one of the most talented people to have ever walked this earth.” That’s a Fact! He’s older now & been doing it along time, yet he’s still learning! Always bringing something different to the people! That’s true talent! I was fortunate enough to see his show this summer & I pray, there will be more! And to actually meet him. He is a beautiful person. And not just on the outside, the inside too. Breezy has proved to the world- He Is The Full Package ! Love him or hate him - It won’t take away his talent or the person he truly is! Love you CB, Forever a Fan! 🥰

You do understand that being accused of something doesn’t mean you actually did it. All allegations made against him by women have been proven false and cases dropped. He had receipts that the women were lying. If I’m not mistaken he sued the women , don’t know the outcome of those cases. He did have incidents with men that he settled and admitted to. Bc of the Rihanna situation the allegations by women were just automatically believed in the court of public opinion without any further follow up of the actual cases as your uninformed comment demonstrates. He was 18 when the Rihanna incident happened, he wasn’t in any trouble before that. After that the label of monster and bad guy was placed upon him and he grew frustrated and acted out. All his troubles after Rihanna go back to the Rihanna incident and how he handled it. I do agree who he chooses to date and his colorists comments have been problematic due to his fan base being largely black women. Chris is very talented but it’s very unfortunate that an incident when he was 18 yrs old and all that followed has stained, tainted and diminished his legacy.

chris brown was going to be on another dimension, when he arrived in 05. remember he had: run it!, yo (excuse me miss), gimme that, poppin’ and say goodbye all on his debut album at only 16🤯. arena tours, movies endorsements helped make him a household name before his 18th birthday. The rihanna incident was literally the night before the grammys and his arrest and conviction changed his public image forever (no pun intended). Her music sales went up as she was the victim whereas his music was completely pulled off the radio. You had big celebrities out bashing him for what he had done it wasn’t until the MJ tribute in 2010 where people actually felt some level of compassion for him and he was able to make a slight comeback with F.A.M.E. His singles were doing well and his talent was shinning through as it did in 05 but this black cloud followed him around everywhere he went remember the robin roberts incident. Also he even had the highest attended today show performance, and the news reported it saying he was a bad examples for young girls to look up to because of his conviction. However what happened after I think was what put a nail in his coffin for white america…it was the picture of rihanna’s bruised face and the police report from her side that made its rounds in 2012 causing that outrage when he performed at award shows again and I think as talented and successful he is he was too much of controversial figure to get behind when there were other artist emerging at the time like jason derulo, trey songz and bruno mars who didn’t have the bad media reputation he had. he still has a solid core fan base but he also hasn’t helped trying to repair his image with incidents like punching frank ocean, multiple twitter beefs, restraining order from karrueche, multiple reports of violence towards women and eventually jail time. All of this affects his music because his image is hard to get behind, the rihanna incident was enough for many ppl to be done with him but even as close as 2019 & 2021 he was accused of other crimes and was being accused of being a colourist. Regardless true or not it further shows a pattern of behaviour. The young chris brown had the potential for ultimate superstardom he had the look, the voice, the hits, performance ability beyond his years and a clean media reputation the virginia boy with the wrigley jingle. however he’ll be remembered as probably to me the most talented individual artist of this generation however someone who couldn’t fulfil his potential due to his personal life. And before anyone mentions the michael jackson comparisons people say you can compare the two because michael jackson had his own “personal issues”. although what MJ is accused off is completely disgusting. michael had already released the trilogy of off the wall, thriller, & bad 🤯 an album run that will never be seen again so he had already become the biggest superstar the world had ever seen however the incident happened so early for chris that we only saw him reach superstardom in 06 & 08 where he was artist of the year in both years however the rest of his career has been with a crutch due to his past. It’s sad that we live in a generation with one of the most talented artists of all time and we will probably never see a crazy coachella moment or crazy super bowl set or even award show performance from him. the fact his been able to remain relevant and at the level he has since 09’ is a testament to his talent because I can’t name another artist from his generation who could’ve.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment. You raised a lot of good points here. His past is definitely very tainted and it’s hard for most folks to comb through all the controversy to find out what’s true and what’s not. I think this confusion has worked against him. In Chris Brown’s documentary, he reveals that she hit him first. And in Rihanna’s interview on Oprah said she wanted to “protect him”. So it more complicated then what the media portrays it to be. His music is good. I love his track Back to Sleep. But I found his later albums very boring and never listened to them more than a few skips. Same thing happened with Drake, I liked Take Care and that whole emotional ambient sounding rnb, but the albums after his first two I wasn’t into. I find Radiohead the only consistent band that releases high quality album release after release. I loved Kid A but I also love Moon Shaped Pool. Björk can be very hit and moss with her albums too. I love Post, Debut, Homogenic; Vespertine; Vulnicura. But her album Volta; Biophillia; and Fossora I couldn’t get into. Linkin Park had a hit and miss situation too, I love Hybrid Theory; Meteora; Reanimation, and I hated all their later albums which went poppy, or experimental techno; I didn’t mind the last album before Chester died, the pop thing had some okay songs, like that collab with the Kiara, I like his song Waiting for The End. Anyway, Chris Brown I find is a better dancer than Ed Sheeran. Bruno Mars I find not as imptessive stylistically than Chris Brown. Chris Brown is like in the vein of Michael Jackson and Usher, but more edgy like Zayn Malik without a boy band situation. Chris Brown is an amazing dancer and a good singer, and extremely good inspiree of Michael Jackson.

I agree with your points about his most recent music. I would like to see Chris do something in the traditional R&B vein, maybe something acoustic and very soul bearing. I think he has been through a lot but it also feels like a lot of his music doesn’t really capture those experiences and pain.

@@musermusings he does does traditional R&B, the problem is that most of time it is feature. For example that collab he did with Jamie fox did well despite the fact that the song being geared towards middle aged people.
