I 100% don’t wanna hear raps someone wrote for you BUT what if you didn’t do the robbery but are a great storyteller? As long as we know this is a “character song” it should be cool. I know in my hood there are outrageous things that happen & it’d almost be a public service sharing them with the world! Many gangsters turn rappers be saying “I’m not a rapper” & I be like ‘there’s no need to say, we can tell!”
@kite36
@kite36 22 күн бұрын
@TheMiliPro You missing the point bro. You sound like you ride for the artist you like and that’s cool but the whole point of why it’s not respected is rap isn’t like rnb and other genres where there’s an additional skill level needed which is singing, singers have always had writers cause not everyone can sing. As a rapper you just rap so if you need writers to make your then you’re not even a rapper anymore because the dude who wrote your track could have just put it out themselves if they had a bigger platform, it doesn’t work that way with singing.
@dyllwill
@dyllwill 22 күн бұрын
@kite36 that's cap tho. Not everyone can rap. Let's be completely honest. We all know someone who thinks they can rap but they are ass. That being said. I think as long as you credit your writers, it's fine in any genre. But no matter the genre, artists should write their own tracks.

i’ve agreed with this argument my entire life but this just made me realize something…there’s nothing stopping you from saying the same thing about rappers. you can write the most miraculous verse and hook of all time but if your voice sucks it won’t matter. there’s literally no difference in logic or reasoning behind rap ghostwriters and singing ghostwriters. so since we can use the same logic for both crafts what is the real reason ghost writing isnt acceptable in rap. i think it’s an integrity thing. rap verses are more wordy and personal, you expect it to be an expression of the artists true self. whereas in r&b the topics are mainly about love and are often very generalized and you don’t necessarily need the lyrics to be true for the artist because you understand the feelings and perspectives can relate to anyone. rap on the other hand isn’t about a universal feeling, it’s cleverness and word play and introspective. requires wit and charm, personal anecdotes. you want the person who said the impressive, unique stuff you just heard to be the one who made it up otherwise what’s the point.

It made me realize that too lol. Like wait. What you're saying is exactly right. But it can be applied both ways. Drake sounds better on hotline bling than dude did on Cha Cha. Or vory on mob ties. He's a scumbag that drains the life out of the artists he works with though which is a whole other issue .. but I agree it's an integrity thing. Plus, rapping is supposed to be about getting out way more ideas and personal stories in 1 song than a typical singer could get out in 2 albums. It's supposed to be about sounding good AND genuine artistry. T history of Sugar Hill Gang not writing a single piece of their music and people biting early on from local MC's made it a taboo. It's like stand up comedy. You can collaborate but there's a limit.

Body language aside, Chris is right. Hip Hop has always been a competitive genre like sports and every rapper wants to be the best so if u claim to be the best lyricist or best rapper, having a ghostwriter is gonna be frowned up because it isn’t coming from you, it’s coming from someone else. Personally, Idc if rappers use ghost writers if they are making radio or club songs but when we talking BARS, WORDPLAY, and LYRICISM, ghostwriting imo disqualifies a rapper from being the best lyricist/emcee….

HipHop ain't 60yrs old & rap ain't nothing but poetry. Any Blues song talking about a woman can also mean drugs/alcohol & the devil, just like Rick James. Before gospel, work songs in the fields & chain gangs had double & triple entendres. It was coded language. More songs than you realize have esoteric meanings, that ppl will miss if they are either not initiated or studying occult. Sorry to keep you waiting.

Not really because the difference is writer vs ghost writer it has nothing to do with rap vs singing. It you have a writer then that writer is listed in the credits everyone knows who wrote the song you’re not pretending as an artist that you wrote while if you use a ghost writer then you’re lying not listening the writer in the credit and you’re pretending like you wrote that’s the difference. If Chris brown was telling people he wrote this song then we find out someone else wrote that would be bad for him.

@@LKS-M9323 Just about anyone can "learn" how to rap tho. Everyone doesnt have a voice for singing. And tbh a big part of being a successful entertainer is also image. Alot of "ghost writers" dont Look the part and dont "Look" marketable so theyre used for their writing ability. Theres a multitude of factors that go into creating an artist. Thats why only a select few are pushed to the front. Chris is correct he just didnt explain it completely. Probably bcuz he's high lol. 😂😂

Finally someone who brought this point up. Singers pride themselves in being able to vocal range. Rappers don’t have to sing, so they care about lyrical range. Rapping someone else’s raps is like reciting someone else’s poem. Why do we need to hear it from someone who didn’t write it
