Chris Colbert (USA) vs. Tugstsogt Nyambayar (MONGOLIA) | Boxing Fight Highlights

Throughout the week leading up to the fight, Chris Colbert expressed himself boldly, and when it came time to step into the ring, he lived up to every statement. The confident fighter from Brooklyn is continuously evolving in the junior lightweight division, as demonstrated in his impressive performance against Mongolia's Tugstsogt Nyambayar. Colbert skillfully outclassed the 2012 Olympic Silver medalist and former featherweight title challenger, securing a decisive unanimous decision victory on Saturday night at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Judges Carla Caiz (118-110), Fernando Villarreal (118-110), and Zachary Young (117-111) all gave unanimous scores in favor of Colbert during the Showtime-televised main event. Nyambayar took the fight on short notice, transitioning from featherweight to replace the injured Yuriorkis Gamboa. Despite Nyambayar's aggressive start, Colbert adapted quickly, using a purposeful jab effectively throughout the first round.
Colbert acknowledged Nyambayar's power, stating to Showtime's Jim Grey after the fight, "He carried power for a 126-pounder. Boxing is about hitting and not getting hit. I had to use my Muhammad Ali tactics and float like a butterfly and sting like a bee."
The action remained intense in the second round, with Colbert switching between orthodox and southpaw stances. A right hand from Nyambayar caught Colbert during the southpaw stance, but Colbert regained control in subsequent rounds. Despite clashes of heads in rounds four and five, Colbert maintained dominance, utilizing a sharp jab and scoring with precise right hands.
Throughout the fight, Colbert's jab continued to be a potent weapon, landing over 10 times per round. Although Nyambayar showed purpose in the first half of the match, Colbert's hand speed and flurries overwhelmed his opponent, leading to a one-sided tenth round. Despite Nyambayar's efforts in the eleventh round, Colbert maintained a strategic approach, securing the win without taking unnecessary risks.
With this victory, Colbert's record improves to 16-0 (6KOs). The 24-year-old Brooklynite showcased impressive stats, nearly doubling Nyambayar in total punch output, landing 218-of-662 total punches (33%), including 112-of-421 jabs (27%). Colbert credited his jab, saying, "The jab will set you free, and it got me free a number of times."
