Suicide is a devastator. It took my brother in law a month before I married my wife of now 20+ years and i saw what it did to her and her family. It took decades for it to be "okay" but it still hurts. It took my cousin who a similar age as me last July and my dad a month later the anniversary of his passing is next week. Chris Cornell's loss crushed me as i have had a dependence on music since I was a teen as a battler of my internal demons. Music is my mood stabilizer. Losing someone who I looked up to musically, lyrically for decades and knowing he could no longer bear the weight of the stone that is life really hurt. Then my cousin, my dad- previous heroes of mine on different levels Robin Williams Anthony Bourdain. Sometimes you assume you know someone and especially when they are "rich and famous" you ask the question of how could they- "they had everything". If you have depression you never have everything. Depression rots the vulnerable parts we have inside us whilst rusting away the seemingly impervious steely parts. I have dealt with depression since I was 5 or 6 years old... it becomes you. It is a sea of waves upon which one is forever adrift. It sits in your head like a reverberating ghost- when it isn't actively putting it's nauseating blade into you- tearing you down, telling you that you are worthless- even on the good days you stop and catch a breath and the cruel echo is there: you know it's waiting. When you are in it you can't see around it- can't remember the good times but when you are out all you can think is it's coming back. I cry for no reason knowing who I've lost and asking what i could have done to prevent it. That call I didn't make, that chord progression or song i didn't share with my dad the week before I went on a vacation- the same week he took his life. I am only vulnerable as a victim so i must cease to see myself as such and stop feeling sorry for myself. I conjure up the beauty of what I have experienced and seen and what I have and hold in the present even in this time of great despair- a time in our history where self pity feels so horrible. All those who are without and losing so much more than i ever have. I pull upon the positive and remember that life without another day is meaningless: ther eis no other day than the present, the past is unchangeable- the future does not exist as it is simply of our own making. If you are down- seek others who can help. Life no matter how bleak in the current moment is worth living. There is always a better tomorrow no matter how dark today is.

Zenmodo WOW! You hit the nail on the head. I’ve never seen depression described so well! Hugs and healing to you and your family for the losses you’ve suffered and I’m praying that you triumph over your demons. The picture that you painted with your words is a beautiful paradox; gut wrenching and hopeful. That’s one of the things I love most about Chris as an artist, that incomparable, beautiful voice combined with his soul, makes me feel it. Paradoxically the beautiful voice with dark, pain filled lyrics at times.
@tombstone18412 жыл бұрын
Great comment, lost my wife to suicide, reading your description, put into words exactly how She was feeling, utterly hopeless. Still no matter how bad you feel, get help, Life is all we have, cherish it, death is certain and will come soon enough, no need to rush it. Think of the people you're leaving behind, the one's who will be devastated that you're gone. That's all I have to say about that.

With a voice like a building tempest... he blows me away... I find myself coming back to this upload whenever I feel overwhelmed by the loss... The banter, the smiles and of course.... that voice, those lyrics, and the music as a whole. Great set list... What a musician.. I'm shattered to think that our ears will never take in another new lyric from this poet of poets, nor will they caress the beautiful, gentle, gutsy, rolling thunderstorm power of his voice... Power to move you.... I just felt we would grow old with him... listening to his voice mature over the years... his thoughts and direction shared thru lyric... etc... *sigh*... I can't bring myself to say those words of finality. ... but you're the brightest star in my night sky.. Shine on Chris... Shine on...

I HAD THE HONOR AND PRIVELEDGE OF SEEING CHRIS CORNELL SOLO 3X, IN 2011, 2013, & 2015. IN 2011 HE VOICE WAS HOARSE, AND NOT AS BEAUTIFUL AND CRISP AS IT WAS THE NEXT 2X THAT I SAW HIM. HE HAD JUST FINISHED HIS 2010-2011 REUNION TOUR WITH SOUNDGARDEN, AND HIS VOICE HAD TAKEN A BEATING. THE MAN WAS A BRILLIANT SONGWRITER, AND MUSICIAN. HIS VOICE WAS A FINE TUNE INSTUMENT, AND JUST HEARING PERFORM AVE MARIA, STILL BRINGS ME CHILLS. CHRIS CORNELL WOULD NOT WANT US TO MOURN HIS PASSING, BUT TO CELEBRATE THE 30+ YRS. OF HIS CAREER, AND THE LIFE THAT HE LED.. PEACE

Storytime. When i was but a teenager playing original playstation games i stumbled across the greatness of soundgarden. Outshined, kickstand, superunknown...all on road rash 3d. it was game over for me (no pun intended). I became a life long fan. Appreciated SG for years and built my love even more during the solo and audioslave years but i didnt start to zero into how brilliant Chris was until somebody leaked his solo acoustic show in sweden (my god look it up on youtube if you havent heard it yet, you owe it to yourself). that voice! those songs! that writting! work my way through hia catalogue and he was reborn my favorite vocalist/writer of all time. im 32 in a few days. Even in my generation Cornell fans are a rarity. I lost a hero. His music has been and will continue to be there for every great moment i have in my life. I listen to him now more than ever and each time im a little better for it.

Wow this is really cool- just watching the first few minutes. No worries about the HD. Probably more portable than back then- but I'm sure you wanted to enjoy the show which is hard to do worrying about the video- at least you were at the stage so as not to obscure someone else's view. I stopped doing that, I'd be a tool keeping others from getting the full view or singing along.. people didn't pay all that money to friggin her me or others in the audience sing. I prefer just to be in the moment. Damn this is good. It must have been special interacting with him. I know he was a fan of his fans- and to know he's gone must really fuck up your head remembering that show and now he's gone-and still hadn't peaked yet in a career that would have kept going for years. Thanks for sharing this. RIP Chris Cornell!
