I met him once, I was a teenager (I’m in my fifties now) Soundgarden played in one of the local clubs and we faked stamps to get in. They were selling cassettes, I think it was before any record deal. I did my absolute teenage best to hit on him but he graciously declined my advances. He did hang around and talk with us though, and I remember being surprised at how soft spoken and funny he was after just seeing him screaming so beautifully on stage. He was really sweet, even though I’m sure I was very obnoxiously goofy in his presence. I was absolutely star struck and haven’t been like that since that night. It’s just not possible to compare him with anyone.
