On the back of hearing Rage Against The Machine for the first time, Kirk (my awesome hubby) said I should listen to Tom Morello link up with Chris Cornell in Audioslave, which I didn't know I listened to previously (it was an acoustic performance of "Like A Stone" without Tom!) What a crossover event I had no idea ever happened, and I am absolutely ELATED to hear this for the first time!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Audioslave for the first time, performing "Show Me How To Live”.

To me he has a sort of haunting feel in his voice. Like he's tapping into a dark part of the soul that most people don't want to give voice to. Its not a dark angy but more of a dark hurt emotional side, and he gives it a beautiful sound in it own way. Was definitely an influential track growing up.
@9xqspx6
@9xqspx6 11 ай бұрын
And this darkness feels even more articulated after his passing. I love all the Audioslave records, but after Chris's death I have been listening to them very little, because they break me in a way, every time I listen - because I'm very susceptible to feelings transposed through music. I guess this darkness is one of the reasons why I really love these records, but when the source of that darkness feels more revealed, it just cuts deeper, too deep at times, and it can wreck my mood.

This is my favorite album from all of Cornell’s bands but this was also a tough era for him live. This wasn’t a bad performance by any means but it is markedly different from the studio version, and you can tell he’s struggling with this song, particularly the chorus. (This song is a tough song to single in general.) There are a few live recordings that Audioslave did right after the album first album was released that sound pretty good but that was about it. He damaged his voice early on (at some point there was a surgery) and it drastically changed his sound. In the background he was dealing with addiction along with smoking and drinking. Stuff happens. In his later solo albums he spent a lot of time rebuilding his voice and as a result those live performances were much better and closer to the old style many of us knew and loved. RIP to a legend

16:25 In the studio recording of this song, I really love how he sings the word "skin." You don't really notice it here, but again in the studio version he lengthen the word, almost stretching it in a way. He brings alot of extra attention to it and it definitely evokes a feeling. Subtle things like that in his performances are why Chris Cornell is one of the greatest!

Man it’s crazy how Chris could sing a song 100 different ways, you had the album version where all the words were more annunciated and the words flowed naturally with the music and tempo, but then you hear a live version like this where words are run on to each other, he’s singing higher and just completely making the song feel that much more special as it’s a live performance! I have been listening to Chris for as long as I can remember, thanks Dad!

Miss this man's voice so much. His work is my top repeat played on my Staylist. His original work is amazing and his covers of other artists is as well. Never enough of him. This is another great react (Show Me How to Live). ... Cochise brings out his loud power... Roses on a Grave is softer... Nothing Compares 2 U is small studio (Sirius) is a tribute... the man took The Beatles song A Day in the Life... and on stage live he reformed with one guitar what they needed two takes with half orchesta... the range he had... I repeat his Live in Sweden cover of Led Zep's Thank You often (blame it on a woman)... which is a patient sweet soft song that he reshaped from the original and is really restrained from his power and different vocal voices. Never enough of him.

If you're familiar at all with the way they were touring at this time, and the size of the shows, and the length of the shows, and the fact that this filming was after having been so insanely busy and the demands that they were under because THE WHOLE WORLD loved them immediately and wanted to see them live... it's a million wonders his voice is even able to make sound at this point. These dudes gave the crowd 100% effort 100% of the time. So glad we got to see this lineup of amazing musicians come together and make the magic they did. Even if it was short lived.

Not sure if anyone else pointed it out, but back when this dropped as a single for the debut album, folks heard Chris doing that larynx tap you were talking about and thought it sounded like a digital pitch shifter effect. The band made it clear that it was that physical effect of Chris tapping that you see in the live cut you watched, and I have to imagine that it's something they extended in live performances in order to really highlight what he was doing. To my knowledge this is the only time Chris used this technique, which links in to how it's a bit risky to do if you're not careful, as you mentioned. Chris was really a fantastic talent, not just in terms of his range and breath control (and stamina) but also in the otherworldly quality of his voice and the lyrics he wrote. As a project, Audioslave is Chris at his most refined form (contrasting with the rawness of his earlier albums with Soundgarden) while his solo efforts (especially the very pop-infused album he did with Timbaland, "Scream") show him branching out and applying his voice in different ways. For a really good time though? Check out his acoustic cover of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGHYiHljaJx3d68

I'd like to request Elliott Smith for a future video. There are barely any reactions or analyses on KZbin. His style of singing is very unique and hard to describe. It's very delicate and listening to his songs feels like stumbling upon a private conversation, as if he's singing intimately to himself or a confidant. The songs I'd recommend are: Pitseleh, Angeles, Between the Bars, Needle In The Hay, A Fond Farewell

The bassist for the band is named Gene Simmons and in 1978 the band members released their own solo albums, on genes there’s a song titled always near you/nowhere to hide where he hits a g sharp 5 I believe. I’d love to see you break down that song and anything else by kiss especially songs with gene on vocals but all the members sing their own songs in the band. Love your videos btw 🤙🏻
