I was always intrigued by the what people termed "heavy". If the guitar wasn't turned up to 10, if the tempo wasn't fast enough, it wasn't "heavy". Black Sabbbath never played a lot of fast songs, high BPM, but they were heavy. Heavy is tone. Heavy is mood. Heavy is atmosphere. Black Sabbath was heavy. Soundgarden was heavy. When the song needed it, it was heavy.

For me, Cornell was the best thing to come out of the Grunge era. I was lucky enough to see SG 3X's; the first at Lallapalooza in '92 and the last in 2013 for their first reunion at the Tower in Philly. The best, however, was in 1996 at Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, when they were def. at the top of their game. I must say his was the only time I ever shed a tear for a celebrity passing. RIP brother🙏

"One of the first times I remember writing something personal was on tour. I was feeling really freaky and down, and I looked in the mirror and I was wearing a red T-shirt and some baggy tennis shorts. I remember thinking that as bummed as I felt, I looked like some beach kid. And then I came up with that line-’I’m looking California / And feeling Minnesota,’ from the song ‘Outshined’-and as soon as I wrote it down, I thought it was the dumbest thing. But after the record came out and we went on tour, everybody would be screaming along with that particular line when it came up in the song. That was a shock. How could anyone know that that was one of the most personally specific things I had ever written? It was just a tiny line. But somehow, maybe because it was personal, it just pushed that button.”-Chris Cornell
