Showing my age but I was a huge Sound garden fan, back in the day Chris Cornell's wife Susan managed Sound garden and Alice In Chains, and they had fan clubs. So if you sent them a self addressed stamp envelope and joined the club they sent you newsletters. Tool did the same thing, but Soundgarden and AIC were special also sent Christmas presents including exclusive Cd's and little stuff like buttons and Christmas tree ornaments. I've saved all mine. It was a great time to be a music fan.

Ghadrack Potato Susan Silver also produced Candlebox, on Madonna’s Maverick label. The lead singer was young (18-ish) for the grunge movement, but was friends with the founders (like Andy Wood) as he worked in a record store in Seattle. Yes, I’m a grunge nerd. Chris' inspiration was Motown. You can hear it in his voice. I never really realized it until I watched an interview with him where he said his mom used to play Motown in the house all the time when he was a kid. After that video, all the pieces fell into place for me related to his particular style of singing. He was one of the greats and will be missed.

Loved this reaction! You could tell you were really into it! I'm blessed to say I saw Chris and Soundgarden perform this song just two weeks before he passed away. When they did the softer songs like black days.....you could feel the pain in Chris's voice. I don't want to say that I KNEW he had something going on....because hindsight is 2020......but he certainly conveyed his pain that evening. I've been to hundreds of shows, but I'll never forget those 90 minutes.

Idk, I’m 25, and all I can say is that it’s very hard to find present-day songs that cover the emotions I’m going through. The 90s though? This is one of those bands from back in the day that I regularly still listen to; for those that were not there Grunge changed everything in music, so many stunningly good bands emerged from that era and it was beyond thrilling to be there in that time, and living in that region, to watch it unfold each day. Thanks for finally doing an SG reaction, made my night! To answer your question, he was 52 years and 10 months old at his death. Some more background, Outshined was a single from their Badmotorfinger album which was released in September of 1991. The band was formed in 1984 by Singer/Drummer Chris Cornell, guitarist Kim Thayil and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. The band added drummer Matt Cameron to the lineup in 1986 and released their debut ep the next year followed by their debut album UltramegaOK in 1988 and Louder Than Love in 1989. Hiro left the band that year and was replaced by Ben Shepherd and here we are at Outshined. The band would release with their most successful album, Superunknown in 1994 and finally Down on the Upside in 1996. The band broke up in 1997 and went on a 13 year hiatus until 2010. They released King Animal two years later, which would be their final album since Chris sadly died in 2017. The remaining members are working on overdubbing the finished vocal tracks for the album they were working on at that time so we may still get one final album. That's a lot of info, I know. I'm kind of a nerd about SG, hope you enjoyed the read, Jamel.

I saw Soundgarden live in 1989 when I was 30 and think I might of been the oldest person there, lol! Chris had one of the greatest voices in rock and it still makes me sad when I think of how it all ended. In hindsight, you can hear his pain in his lyrics and voice and I only wish people had really heard him. Chris was 52 when he died which means he was around 27 in 1991 when this song came out.

You should totally check out the band Foo Fighters. I just listened to The Pretender recently for after what had been a while and I was reminded of how awesome a song it is. One of my favorites all time. FYI the lead singer of Foo FIghters was the drummer in Nirvana
