Historians will look back on that foolish deprecation decision as the turning point in Google’s decline. And yes, I know the stock has been up a lot since then. But let’s not confuse financial performance with goodwill, long-term business model durability, etc

If blockchain is so useful, how come no one uses it? This is my refutation of the usefulness of blockchain and decentralized databases/systems. It's been around long enough for significant user adoption to have occurred - if it were truly NET value-add, and truly NET useful for users. I'm sympathetic to the aspirations and the (libertarian) values of independence, self-control, and decentralization behind much of the blockchain movement. But the costs/benefits balance just doesn't work - the proof of this is the lack customer adoption. It kind of reminds me of Marxism - good in theory in an ideal world but just does not work well in practice. Sorry.

People in the 90’s: The Internet is so useful, how come no one uses it?

1) Almost all of blockchain's value comes from network effects - the more people are using it, the better it becomes, non-linearly. 2) The technology is quite limited - high transfer fees, expensive storage costs, high electricity use, etc. The philosophies are there, and I believe they're what matters in the longrun.
