' Eubank was way too trigger shy' listening to him talk in a show which featured several of his boxing generation including Collins' Eubank is a very articulate man and it kind of adds up (at least to me) that he may well have 'over thought' the whole thing when in reality and as you say you have to keep punching away . @Simon P I've heard some really funny and ridiculous comments regarding Eubank beating Collins, bla bla, but if you reckon he would have beaten Collins in 90, thats a joke, absolutely no, not a chance. In 90, the best Middleweight on the Planet, Mike Mc Callum was at his peak, in February , he beat Collins on pts in a tough fight, just 2 months later, he comprehensively beat Britains best Middleweight , Michael Watson in 11 rds. Watson destroyed Nigel Benn just 10 months before in 6 rds. Collins would have beat him easily, he was used to fighting against far better opposition .
@francishegarty80874 жыл бұрын
@Simon P l'm not smoking anything , I also saw and was at the 2nd Eubank fight were Collins won almost every round. Mike Mc Callum would have destroyed Eubank back then easily. If Eubank and Benn were so good, how come they never fought Mc Callum, Kalambay, Johnson ,RJJ, Toney, Nunn etc and try to Unify their Divisions ? Why not try to aspire to be someone who could be called a Unified, Undisputed Champion like Minter did, albeit for a short time? Trust me on this, how come they didn't fight Collins from 92 - 95? I know the real reasons why, they were advised by their camps to avoid him, facts.
@francishegarty80874 жыл бұрын
@Simon P Just to add, Eubank got very lucky wins and draws V Watson, Benn, Malinga and Close, twice. As a fight fan, I'm proud and privileged to have seen him box but I'am also aware of how lazy he was, lackadaisical and his belief of turning up to win? I rate Eubank as being very good, but that's it, a fantastic chin, very tough but a Great, no. Ask anybody who knows the Sport in America, just where does Eubank fit in the 160 - 168 Divisions from 90 - 96 and see what they have to say, they don't rate him at all, have you ever asked yourself why?

Collins does well fighting at a slowish rhythm, timing and balance on point. Defensively responsible with pretty quick reflexes. Not flashy but effective, gets out of the way by ducking under a lot of shots. Tough battle hardened and it’s obvious that he can hit hard. Has a good straight jab as well. counter punching is his forte, repels attacks effectively by split second counters. Allows him to steal the play and maintain momentum. Eubank not at his best here, psych himself out not confident. Threw wide ineffective lunging shots

It's almost like a fencing match. Especially in the early rounds, lots of feinting, micromovements and misdirection followed by a lunging combination attack which the defender tries to defend and counter, and after that sequence they both reset to distance and do it again. It's like they came to an unspoken agreement that they were going to fight each other in that rhythm. I'd heard about this match but never saw either of these fighters and this wasn't what I was expecting at all. Entertaining but sort of a strange fight.

Eubank took the piss out of SC in the 10th round after hitting him with that right hook when really he should have followed through and finished him off immediately.

@nicky290319774 жыл бұрын
@Brendan W He could've in this fight but he relaxed in the 10th round rather than finishing Collins off. Eubank thought Collins was going to be as easy as Watson or Benn but that wasn't the case. In the second fight Collins was much more wiser and didn't fall into the same trap of getting hit with Eubanks famous right hook which nearly cost him the first fight.

Just watching the slow motion replays at times a lot of Collins punches missed, might have been counted as scoring punches because a lot of them were very close to being scoring punches but not quite when you see the slow motion, lot of crowd noise when he was missing that might have swayed the judges. I suppose hard to see at normal speed for the judges ringside. Eubank made him miss a lot. Probably the same for both I suppose.

Collins gets criticised for beating past their best Eubanks/Benn but I got him beating them both at any stage. Eubank not much passed his best here and nothing in Benn suggests he could blow granite chinned Collins away.

I respect your comments but reckon Collins done well enough to win this bout, I had Collins ahead by 3 rds going into the last which meant that even if the Collins slip was classed as a knock down, he'd still win once it went the distance. For me, Ronnie Davies , Eubanks trainer, told him going into the last, " You need to KO him to win" I respect Ronnie and reckon he was spot on then.

@@tonylawlor8833 Both where on way down for varying reasons I speak the truth I speak what every top notch fighter has said he got Both at the right time 3 - 5 yrs earlier no chance
@francishegarty80874 жыл бұрын
You don't speak the truth, Eubank and Benn had many chancee to fight Collins from 92 - 95 and you can also mention Mc Callum aswell, he challenged Benn in 92, just after he claimed his first 168 Crown and said he'd go up from 160 with no problems , facts, truths. Have you ever studied or looked into Eubanks career? Do you not realise that he only held 1 of 4 of the World Boxing Bodies belts? How come he never fought the Champions and the top 5s of the WBC, WBA and IBF guys in this period? How was he allowed to get so many blatant decisions V Watson, Benn, Malinga and Close? Now here's the truth, Collins had only 3 defeats in his career, all on pts for World Crowns and 2 of these were split decisions and very controversial, V Mc Callum, Kalambay and Johnson , 3 guys who Eubank or Benn never fought and were classes above what they fought. Collins was in with much better fighters from the mid 80s when he started in the USA and ducked nobody, not like Eubank and Benn.
