Then again, as an artist he may purposely take on more challenging roles. The Rock, Jack Black, Michael Cera, Bill Burr, Kristen Wiig are some of the examples of actors who usually just play themselves. I think a lot of people coming out of comedy do this, since creating a funny persona is a big part of stand up, sketch comedy, etc (though people like Key & Peele and Eddie Murphy are pretty broad in their acting abilities). This would be a great discussion for a podcast.
