The valid Bowl in baseball is called as full toss in cricket and is the easiest ball to play. 80 % of the time full toss ends up with a six or 4.

Now You should watch some good bowling action... kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4Pco3-pjq99mKc The bowls that Chris Gayle faced were too easy... And one more thing that there are plenty of ways a batsman can get out in cricket.... So it's not that easy to just go and hit sixes of each ball... What happened in this match was an exception....

"How can you pitch around him?" You can't walk him, you have to bowl to him, you only have 4 tactics to employ as a pace bowler to avoid being smacked around by a batsman who is on fire. 1. Bowl 'Yorkers' these are fast deliveries which are angled at the batsman to not the ground just on or about his toes. This means that the batsman will have an extremely difficult time trying to get any leverage on the ball to get the elevation needed for a six, and will find it harder to hit the ball with sweet spot of the bat (called the middle), meaning they will also struggle to hit a four. 2. Bowl the cricket equivalent of a change-up pitch in baseball, bowlers will have a variety of different delivers they practice, akin to a slider, knuckle ball, curve ball etc. For some bowlers in cricket the difference between their regular deliveries (akin to fast balls) and change-up variations might be 20 to 30 miles an hour. Some change-up type deliveries try to move the ball either toward or away from the batsmen in the air, this is called swing bowling. This is achieved by polishing one-sided of the ball, reducing the friction on that side as the ball passes through the air, the ball will arc towards the non-polished and slower moving side of the ball. A second type of change-up pitch is called a cutter, in this delivery the bowler rotates their wrist to the side as the deliver the ball, therefore giving the ball some sideways rotation as it is bowled, the hope is that that sideways movement will make the ball bounce away from straight-on motion. The final type of change-up type ball is a 'back-of-the-hand' delivery, this works by the bowler having his fingers infront of the ball when he bowls it, rather than behind as woruld be the case for all other deliveries. It is an extremely hard type of delivery to bowl accurately, but it has the benefit of being very hard for the batsmen to spot, and the ball will be travelling a lot slower than the batsmen expects of they do not spot the change-up. 3. Try to change the angle of attack to the batsmen; a bowler can bowl from either the left or right side of the stumps, and can choose to bowl from tight to the stumps, or wider in the crease. The analogy here would be imagine a pitcher moving to pitch from somewhere other than the centre of the mound, such as the side, the hope would he that the new angle confuses the batsmen. 4. Try to bowl as wide as you can whilst still bowling a legal delivery; this is much less effective in limited overs cricket (such as T20 and ODI) because the bowlers tolerance for what is a legal delivery is greatly reduced, with anything on the batsman's leg side being an automatic wide. The analogy here would be to try to through a strike at the very edge of the zone, rather than in middle. Each of these tactics countered by batsmen in a variety of ways as well.

Well, cricket is a team sport. Even Chris gayle can't perform at every single match. And there are at least 3 match in a series. A series can last from a week to 2 weeks. Only way to stop someone like Chris gayle is to get him out. If u can't , have someone in ur team to score more. Or try again in another match. Winning the series is important, not the match.

@@osvertlara5702 its T20 its game of best hitters not so technical, than there is One day match which you need to balance attack and defense, you need to be technical and can't just go boom boom (unless you are Crish Gayle or Sehwag) and than there is test match, 5 days where its test of batsman's patience and skills, you need to be at the best of your game and take minimal risks (unless you are crish Gayle and Sehwag they are both insane, they are entertainment) If the pitch was supporting Swing than there is no way Gayle could connect the ball that sweet. Baseball is a softball compared to cricket, The Ball does not pitch the grounds so it makes baseball easier to play, The ball speed of cricket is faster with cuts and swings. Yes, there are limitations to baseball runs so as another sport. But please mark my words if the ball hits you it could make serious damage sometimes fractures and death. The baseball bat swing is similarly based on set technique and timing but in cricket, you need techniques to play different ball lengths along with strength. and as a bowler, you must watch the batsman footwork and stance, that will help the batsman to stop making run or hitting the ball (4's or 6's). Both games are great but technically if you try out a cricket batsman with a baseball batsman you will realize cricket batsman will have an edge over the baseball batsman in terms of stikes which does mean that cricket batsman can hit frequent homerun compared to baseball ball batsman. Confusing but LOL some interesting facts, I would like to share, as I play both games but after all, everyone have its own opinion

I found this vastly entertaining, both the knock by Chris Gayle and the admiration and lack of understanding of the game of cricket by the two great hosts of the video. Cricket is highly complicated because of its 360 degree nature, which switches every 6 delivery's, as opposed to Baseballs 180 degree game. Fair play to them for watching and I hope they get to grips with the game some more and post more good stuff. If they thought Gayle was tired after 12 deliveries, they should talk to a test match batsman who is at the crease for about 6 hours a day if he doesn't get out.

@@BoringReviews I've watched other Indian content review/react channels grow at an incredible pace. Remember, there are way more Indians on KZbin looking for content, than there are people in the US, period. And that number grows by the millions every year. That is a potential audience of hundreds of millions. I'm trying to advise you and get you guys caught up with some of the things that I feel you need to know about India and Indians before the storm comes. You won't be able to find my comments once that happens. I've also seen people flounder and stagnate. That is mostly because of they only add content once or twice a week. You guys don't have that problem. Just have fun and add daily content - which you're already doing. I'd recommend all of you watch the movie Gandhi from way back when, just to familiarize yourselves better with that period in the late 1800s to India's independence in 1947, not for a review or anything. Lately, since the push towards nationalism bound with Hinduism (just like many of the right wing nationalists here in the US have a pro-Christianity/anti all other religions bent), there has been a movement to demonize Gandhi - he wanted, and pushed for, a pluralistic society in India. But the fact remains, the information in that movie about how India was treated by colonizers is important for you to know in order to understand the psyche present in India today.

This kind of hitting happens mostly during the beginning and the last part of the innings cause that's when the Powerplay is on i.e most of the fielders are placed inside the inner yard circle and not near the boundaries. Hence it becomes easier during that time for Batsman to Hit it up without the fear of getting caught by the fielders

I think you guys nailed it as far as different sports are concerned. I grew up playing cricket in England, but I now live in the US and love baseball too. There's strategy in both games, and they both share a lot in common, especially stats. Both cricket and baseball LOVE stats ! I know most commenters here are probably from India, because they see anything about cricket and they can't help themselves ( ;) ). Indians have an in-built magnetism to the word, whether it's spoken, or typed. They can hear someone say or type the word a mile away (tell me I'm wrong...). However, even if I myself have cricket in my blood, one thing I'd like to say to the cricket faithfull is that a home run in baseball is so hard to achieve because it's so hard to actually hit the ball. The bat itself is round so the sweet spot is the size of a postage stamp. Just like cricket, the ball can swing, dip and weave, and you have to hit that in 1/2 second with your postage stamp... These guys are paid big money for a reason !

Ok the additional thing in cricket compared to baseball are the 'Overs' An Over has 6 balls - and the bowler / pitcher needs to complete a full over (6 balls) and only then the bowler is changed. So for the 3 forms of cricket: An ODI has 50 overs a side A T20 has 20 overs a side And a Test match - unlimited overs and both sides play 2 innings each, and the match can go on for a maximum of 5 days

I like what you guys are doing - we're all sports fans here (I miss sports!). Cricket isn't 'baseball with brains', it's 'baseball with more variables' (and less ads). A match can last five days, with each player getting two 'at-bats' at most; a 'pitcher' and defensive team has to deal with the fact that 'foul-balls' are legitimate and adjust accordingly. I have no doubt that top-tier baseball players would make outstanding cricketers, and vice-versa - the skill-sets are the same. The difference between them is the difference between a battle, and a war. Since the pitch is a factor (with different bounce and pace, and changing in quality over the course of a match) cricket has a much more macro/strategic aspect - and that's not to mention the used ball changing with use (cricket ball being much much harder - might as well be made of concrete when it hits you). Fatigue and depth comes into play more often - you could liken it to the difference between a one-off B-ball game compared to a playoff series.

in cricket, as a bowler, you can't really bowl to avoid the batsman. If you bowl it too wide of the batsman, the umpire calls it a "wide", and the batting side gets an extra 1 run, and an EXTRA ball has to be bowled in the over. so if you continually bowl wide, the other team gets 1 run, and you have to bowl another ball, ad infinitum. so the only tactic as a bowler, is to bowl well, or bowl a "yorker". (which is a fast ball bowled at the batsman's feet and is therefore difficult to get any power on it). the bowler probably tried in that clip to bowl a few yorkers, but buggered it up and ended up being full tosses, which is the easiest type of ball to hit in cricket.

Great analysis guys. I actually played pro cricket too. I played against Gayle once, but fortunately for our side we got him out early. baseball and cricket are 2 very different sports. However, the fact that we have 360 degress to play with makes a huge huge difference. There also 9 fielders on the field. And they have to cover 360 degrees not 150 degrees (I might be wrong there), another advantage. The point about momentum makes a massive difference too. A Batter who is in the zone like Gayle here can keep pumping everything out the ground because he is in such great rhythm, unlike the stop start nature to baseball. In terms of field size I dont really know how big the baseball stadiums are, but I certainly would not compare hitting a 6 to a homerun. A homerun seems alot harder. In some games, over 120 balls or pitches, we could have 20 sixes. I doubt you would get the same statistic in baeball with pitches to homeruns. Bowling is interesting. There are ways to vary things up. You could just to slow the pitch down with some sort of cutter, you could vary the length, so either go for the head or go for the toes. Generally the yorker, where the ball pitches right next to the batsmens toes is regarded the best place to bowl when someone is smashing you out the park. However, it is hard to get that point accuracy right. And if you miss the "hole" by a tiny bit, the ball is in a perfect place for the batsmen to hit out the park again. In this example I didnt see them vary much on the line of the delivery. So your line could be towards the stumps, or wider away from the body. I have been to this ground a few times in Melbourne and the side lengths are very very small. So people tend not to like pushing the line fo the delivery too wide. From my experience, cricket batters tend to pick up baseball hitting easier than the other way around. I used to go to the cages a bit in Melbourne for fun. I personally was terrible but alot of my friends hit it alright. But pro baseballers would still be miles ahead. In terms of the bat, The surface area of a cricket bat is so much bigger. And again, you can get runs even if you mishit the ball. Baseball in my experience you have to hit the sweet spot to get any results. If you are off your mark by a little bit the ball hardly travels anywhere. 2 Very different sports. I havent watched baseball much but the variations IMO are much more intricate. As the pitch ends up in a small box hitting area, that means the pitcher has to be so skilled to get variations right. Cricket, apart from down the wrong side (leg side), there are more variations possible, but hitting it for the batsmen is easier. Also in a team 5 people must bowl. I dont know how pitching works in baseball, but it seems a team can rely on 2/3 pitches who are top at their game. Cricket there is always at least 1-2 weak bowlers in a team who could get smashed. The game has changed alot in the last 15 years. And people want to see sixes and runs. Bowlers because of that have had it hard.

You make a lot of good points, a lot. You obviously have some experience in baseball. I appreciate that. I don’t know how easier one sport is to pick up if your a pro of the other but I don’t know if you can claim that baseball would be easier to bat in. As you mentioned there is a difference in hitting a ball and hitting it in fair territory. The field of play is much smaller and there are lots of fielders, like you said, so to hit it in a spot no one is, is very difficult. Fielding in cricket would be hands down harder. More area to cover. A batter can be up there for hours. In baseball the hitter only gets so many chances. On average about 4-5 pitchers are used by a team in baseball so that isn’t much different. The roster is 26 players and half are pitchers.

When u pitch the ball the ball might seam, swing in the air, spin or lose some pace depending on the type of pitch or atmospheric conditions in which u r playing. Hence it is batsman's prerogative to negotiate the ball which is coming at him in such a way so that he doesn't get out plus he scores the runs.

You have to go at the guy. The first ball you saw was called a wide. That means that the ball wasn't bowled where the batter could hit it, so the batting team was awarded 1 run, and the bowler had to bowl the ball again. A bowler had to bowl 6 balls in an over, so if you've been hit for 4 sixes in 4 balls, you've still got 2 balls to figure out how you're not going to go for any more runs!

Some really valid points when comparing these 2 sports - But what is an illegal pitch in baseball when it's targetted towards the body of the striker while in cricket a striker (batter) can be hit on his head/body and it's perfectly legal.. you can basically Target the body every single time and it's still legal.

It's true as you say, baseball has a much smaller angle of the strike than cricket - however, in cricket there are fielders everywhere - and part of the game, particularly the 5 day game, is the strategic placement of the fielders to restrict the batsman choices - and... not everyone can hit it everywhere, it takes talent to hit all the angles. BTW pitcher = bowler.

I'd like to see Chris Gayle try baseball, he's got the build and his style of hitting straight down the ground in the V could carry over. Your strategy when a guy is batting like that is to let him get a 1 then try to keep his batting partner on strike, if you can get him to be there for 10-15 minutes without facing much he may lose it and play a bad shot.

Generally speaking, a ball that doesn't bounce on the pitch is easier to hit than one that does and if it reaches the batter on the full, it's called a 'full-toss'. If it doesn't bounce and is above the batter's waist then it is an illegal ball (no-ball).

Any size of man can do wonder in in cricket as. Batsman I maybe wrong but that are my thoughts

You’re not totally wrong. You definitely need hand eye coordination in hitting baseballs. You need timing. These balls come in at 90 mph and faster and have spin. Strength always helps. This is why so many guys were doing steroids in the 80s and 90s. It gave them an advantage but it is not a necessity. It helps with homeruns. We’ve had several small guys win MVPs in the sport.

In baseball you can pitch something that's impossible to hit. In cricket if it's too wide or too high it's a "wide" or "no-ball" which means the team batting gets credited 1 run and the ball has to be rebowled. I'm sure it's already been explained, but each bowler bowls an "over" consisting of 6 bowls. That being said, the closest to pitching unplayable pitches in cricket would be bowling a perfect "yorker", which is essentially aimed at their toes or there abouts so they can't get under it and can't get power behind the shot. But with LBW (leg before wicket) in cricket, if it's in line with the stumps they still have to try and play a shot, defensive or otherwise. Watching a compilation of the best yorkers (if there are any) would be an idea to get the gist of how that works and why they're used. The balls bowled on the full in this video were attempts at yorkers that got away from the bowler. It's harder to be accurate bowling in cricket than pitching in baseball due to the momentum running in and the action that has to be used (ie. straight arm). If you're still taking cricket suggestions for videos, I'd recommend some fielding videos. Classic catches, runouts, etc., but personally I think the catches in closer are the more spectacular. Ricky ponting, Jonty Rhodes, Andrew Symonds, Steve Smith, etc. Catches from positions those players tended to field in can be some of the most spectacular catches ever.

we cant compare both games, games are now run by emotions. but still :P , in baseball you to hit by 1 center line and within 90 degrees and so few balls to play. and if you missed ball you are out, then you can not over run base points at least 2nd and 3rd. where in cricket , you can hit 360 , flat bat with more surface area and no gloves that limits you than bare hands. and while running ,you can run as far as you can even out of stadium :P.

You have to bowl in a zone. The zone is quite tight on the batters leg side and a bit wider on the batting side. Also you can't bounce or bowl it above the shoulders. If you do bowl outside the zone it is a wide, the batting side gets a run and bowler has to re-bowl the ball. This happened with the first ball of the video, as the ball was bowled too wide down the leg side .... the batting side got 1 run and the ball didn't count in the 12 ball total of his 50. When the bowler starts the over they have to bowl the whole over which is 6 valid balls.

although there is the advantage of hitting it anywhere, the bowling has much more variation which makes it pretty hard as well, but both sports have their own individual nuance, also the actual surface of the pitch makes a difference, depending on how it is curated a pitch can be more helpful for bowling or batting. also technically you can get around a batsman but that would be very hard to do, but yes there are certain strategies that can be used but they do not have a very high chance of working for an extended period of time and is tricky to execute.

The video you saw is from a 'T20 Format' match. Which is why most of those shots looked slightly more Baseball style. Once you get to the 'ODI and TEST Formats' of the game, you will start seeing more angles... More strategy.. More CLASS... But Most Importantly, EPIC Battles Between Batsmen and Bowlers.

Iv played baseball and love it and you're right if your fouls counted as hits it would be easier. I also play cricket and love it, the major difference with batting is that most strikes in cricket are played for. You need to have the skill to play the shot. Its not easy hitting any ball going 90+mph let alone bouncing and then positioning a bat the right angle in full swing to position the ball into the field.

As an avid fan of international cricket, the thing that stood out to me was the poor quality bowling. You had (journeyman) league bowlers bowling against an international quality opening batsman (the best batsman in the international side). On top of that 20/20 cricket favoured the batsman compared to other forms of cricket because it was devised to compete with baseball so they encourage big hitting by deadening the impact of the ball. They do this by reducing the seam on the white ball so it moves less in the air and off the pitch. This clearly makes it easier for the batsman to hit big. Of course, it has to be this way because there are only a limited number of balls bowled so you don’t want a low scoring game - it has to be competitive and interesting to the people watching despite a lot of the more subtle and thoughtful variances missing from the longer forms of cricket.

Baseball hitters have an advantage over cricket batters in that every ball is a full toss, which is the easiest ball to hit in cricket. When the ball is bounced on the ground, a cricket batter has to judge the height, length and speed of the ball and figure out twenty different ways it is to be played. Whereas in baseball pretty much every shot is a pull shot which takes a lot of brain work out of it, see ball hit ball. But cricket batter has to figure out after the ball bounces whether to play a drive, glance, cut, pull, etc. etc. etc.

Put simply you have to bowl at the wicket - if you go too wide its given as a wide - i.e. a run is scored regardless and the delivery has to be bowled again so a standard 6 ball over can be say 8 balls long if 2 wides are bowled. That gives more opportunities to score runs particularly in limited overs cricket. Also in T-Twenty or ODI cricket like the Big Bash a wide gives you a free hit which means that you cannot be caught or bowled out - any dismissal is void for that delivery hence the batsman can go after the delivery. Finally - in terms of changing bowlers ( or pitchers ) the eleven man squad is made up of specialists so a team will have bowlers, batsmen and a wicket keeper ( catcher ) - depending on the weather and type of pitch bowlers will vary between fast and/or spin bowlers. They tend to bowl in spells of say 4 to 6 overs because in the baking hot sun any more is impossible. There's no point in changing over after over as the captain is looking for a bowler to get into a groove - I am sure you have/will see videos where bowlers destroy teams in a few overs when they get into a rhythm then just like it was with Gayles awesome batting a bowler can instil fear in a team and cause a batting collapse.
