Now this is what I want to see when I watch top gear. All too often they try to replicate the energy of Jeremy/James/Richard. That was a different era, now they should produce episodes like this. First review a new sports car, have the commentators discuss the new car market for affordable cars, have a guest to interview for five to ten minutes with a legacy in racing or car development, and finally do a review of a performance car made long ago.

ya but I don't know how they justify just south of 200k for it. The price of cars now is so ridiculous. The alfa while amazing to drive I'm sure is a simple shell with nothing extra. They must make huge money from them.
@rmr51842 жыл бұрын
@@devanman7920 I agree that the price tag is pretty hefty, but trust me I'm sure they are not making a lot of money with those cars. I own a 1970 GT Junior (stepnose, the one on my profile picture) and the restoration was really expensive without using all those carbon fiber parts.

Being a petrol head is about much more than flooring the gas pedal a bit too often. It’s even about more than the actual driving itself. I’ve always loved to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon washing my car, detail the interior, take of the rims and go to town on them, keep the engine bay nice and clean…and afterwards a quiet, relaxed ride to reward yourself for a job well done. But as Chris mentioned the recent passing of his mom and the memories of her racing a Mini in better days I think he touched upon one of the most valuable aspects of being a car enthousiast. For me some of the most precious memories I have are “car” related. My mom driving her blue Civic pretty wildly when I was a little boy in the early eighties, my dad driving like a bit of a hooligan in his red Ford Capri. And above all the Rallye du Condroz that my dad never missed and the annual family holiday to the Ardennes where we stayed on a camping near Francorchamps so we could go see the full 24 hours, at night watching the machines storming the Raidillon with my uncle and my dad, letting me sip a bit of cognac from their flask and than gobbling down a delicious, greasy hamburger and a heavily overpriced ice cream on top, just because it’s “THE 24 hours”. It all seems like yesterday, but it isn’t. Without realising it at the time you lose your nearest and dearest one after one…enjoy their company while you can, my friends. It’s time well spent

This compilation is excellent! Every single car is a gem, but I found myself cheering on the Minis and grinning like a kid at Christmas. Probably the one I can relate to most, so long as the seat is bolted down in the very back holes :-D The Alfa is absolutely up there, would love it parked next to an MG Abingdon Edition roadster in my dream garage. But then again nostalgia is a funny mistress - I'd also reserve a place for the best Firenza I could find (maybe a Chevy Can-Am). I miss my old one! YMMV. Stay safe, folks 👍

Nice compilation Chris , you and Neil produce the best videos on youtube for the Petrol heads of the world , the 2 cars that stood out for me the most was the Alfa, is just pure raw physical car porn at its best, the ultimate recreation of the original, where i live in Canada an old Italian guy had one of the originals and was always working on it, fiddling with the carbs or tightening something on it , when he hit the key and it started everyone took notice there was nothing else that sounded so delicious and he'd let it idle for 5/10 mins for it to come up to temp and when we asked why he told us that old Italian cars like it had smaller oil passages in the engine than other european cars of the day and doing so promoted longevity to them and allot less adjusting of valves and timing and Carburetors, it was such a great sounding engine and such a light car, as you said it had no power assisted brakes or steering and front and rear lap belts , the other car was the Bugatti type 35 nothing better, I had an uncle that had a string of old Jags from the 50's , he was one of the first petrol heads he motorcycle hill climb raced back in the 20's then flat track raced in the 30's before the war and when at his farm as a kid in the late 60's early 70's he told us the stories and got rides in these old Jags down dirt roads near the farm at 110 mph in these cars and you never felt like you were going that quick just by the engine note which was beautiful , he always said he lusted for a Alfa and never bought one and we asked why not , my Auntie Irene spoke up and said he has too many other love affairs already with British ladies,LOL he was always under the hood of something with a motor,, 😂 , he is greatly missed by many people, he became a teacher of the first high school automotive technical program in Winnipeg Manitoba where i live and wrote the curriculum with the other education members on the committee that submitted it to the board of education, i was and still am so lucky to have had such a great influence in my life, he rode a motorcycle until his 89th year then said his back needs a rest , he still drove supercharged or turbo charged cars good times, he returned to Holland for the 50th anniversary celebration of the liberation of Holland with the surviving members of The Manitoba Tank Dragoons and they all walked in the parade in their uniforms , just slower and some 50 yrs older, thx so much for the memories 👍

Heavily influenced by my dad who had a 1960 Giulietta Saloon (1292 cc) from new, purchased in South Africa, (Pretoria to Cape Town in 13.5 hours - including some considerable stretches of dirt roads at the time - a total of 998 miles), Europe for 5 years and then South Africa again, followed by a 1600 Giulia Super in the mid-seventies, and another Giulia Super with 1750 motor and dropped suspension back in the late seventies which I was allowed to drive once I had my licence - built by Datsun SA under licence; I purchased my own Alfetta 1800 saloon as a first car (same 1750 motor at 1779 cc). Absolutely loved all of them; the Alfetta was probably slightly more fragile - the start of the Russian-tin era and built by Alfa Romeo South Africa rather than Datsun/Nissan.....but definitely out-handled all it's ancestors... As a teen I worked at an Alfa-centric service station which cemented my love of all things Alfa Romeo. I drove Giulia Supers, step-front Juniors - not really my favourite as engine was small at 1292cc, Veloce's of various engine sizes and (only once) the final iteration 2 liter Veloce as well as the Duetto's and later Spiders and the Giulietta's that came out around that time. My favourite? 1750 Veloce - balance and poise in the twisties - only beaten by my own Alfetta Saloon which had superb 50/50 balance due to the de Dion rear axle and gearbox (anyone for a highway cloverleaf with an entry speed of 100 mph? exit 270 degrees at 85 mph) but hell, I would have loved to try the 2 litre Veloce in the same conditions. The one time I drove it the available torque over the 1600 and 1750 was super impressive, but no twisties as I was only delivering the car back to it's owner. I really want a Veloce or Junior today but with the Alfaholics specs. Sadly, at £190k- totally unaffordable. I should have built it way back then when I had the chance - but no money. 2.3 litre... what engine is that - must be bored out? and I would totally chrome that Cam cover and oil cap rather than black crackle 'em. Love the fact that the plug leads head back into the cab... what an incredibly awesome way to deal with condenser location, although that seems to be a long route back to the dizzy (no doubt it's not a distributor anymore either!) I'd give up a well over-used genital part to drive that car.....You are so, so, very lucky Mr Harris - I am green with envy!
