This interview was extremely uncomfortable and unsettling. I was furious that Chris kept talking over Rachel Lindsay and rambling about nonsense/ playing this down/ almost lecturing Rachel the whole time... when she’s the one who is a person of color. The truth is there’s proof of her racist behavior and none of it is ok. For Chris to say “some sorority picture”... my jaw dropped to the floor... he needs to also educate himself and realize the true meaning behind the party. This was Chris Harrison’s WORST interview. He kept interrupting Rachel. He didn’t have his facts straight (saying the picture was 5 years ago) Saying that in 2018 this would’ve been okay. Oh, he had his facts straight. His spin was deliberate: trying to make publicized and circulated photos = speculation. Pretending as if 2018 is the same as 1970s Texas (p.s. it was wrong then) or pre-Civil Rights movement (also wrong then, people of color just didn’t have a platform to be heard). Asking us to give grace and space for someone who has requested neither, but is in the meantime racking up IG followers by the week (check out @bachelordata instagram to see for yourself). In other words, he’s doing everything he can to protect Rachael’s presence just like he has for all of their problematic contestants in the past - unless they cross Chris personally. Despicable.

I didn’t interprete that as him saying that going to the party in 2018 wasn’t racist. What I heard was him saying that the social awareness about what it actually *means* to go to a party like that wasn’t as it is right now in 2020/2021. You can compare it with the pre-MeToo era. Men were less socially aware of when their comments were crossing boundaries. That still didn’t make their comments less sexist. But it was only after MeToo that the weight of these comments was clearly communicated and understood. So yeah, making a sexist comment pre MeToo, say 2016 is “different” than after, say 2020. Going to a racist sorority party pre BLM/Covid/change of Uncle Ben/change of Aunt Jemima/change of mass awareness... can be seen as “different” compared to now.

Respectfully, he’s been working in the media for decades and he’s using the word “lens,” because he’s not speaking from his perspective. He’s speaking from a media behavioral analysis perspective. And he’s not wrong about 2018! Unfortunately, in 2018, the media would’ve brushed right over a picture of a contestant who attended a southern ignorant party. He doesn’t ever say that he agrees with the racist party. He says he doesn’t want to speak for the contestant who was at this stupid party. And Rachel Lindsay literally says that she agrees with him multiple times. He’s a middle aged man who needs to freshen up his vocab. But, again, it’s not that literal. And I bet you are just a perfect human being. It is astounding how in this day and time, people pick out one thing about someone, and judge their whole person by it. If people do not like something you said or did, or say and do, just cancel them, just censor them, deprogram them. The people who scream "racist" are the ones who fled their communities when they were integrated. They are the elitist, who tell us how we should live and how we should think, while they live in a mansion on a hill, in a gated community, with security guards. They are the people driving huge SUV's and telling us we should drive cars that preserve gas. People judged others and still do, based on the color of their skin. That is a minority of Americans. They tell people who they should and should not vote for, based on the color of their skin. It is disgusting. Everyone has their misgivings, and no one is perfect, but with social media- people are hated and berated on, based on rumor, innuendo, an edited sentence, or one thing they did and/or said in the past. People should be judged on the content of their character; people deserve to be heard, and given a second chance. Look how many criminals come out of jail/prison and turn out to be good, law-abiding citizens, raise happy and good families. Of course, some do not- but many do. But, normal, everyday citizens are now judged, based on one comment or one action. It is wrong and it needs to be stopped. I live in a city that is 87% black, and in my 70 years, I have yet to see any white supremacists or KKK come to town and cause mayhem. But, I have heard many of the whites who fled this city, be the first ones to judge. How should we judge them? NO- they don't want to be judged, yet they were quick to judge. You would think those white supremacists and KKK members would hone in on cities or towns that are majority black. It is part of the false narrative that has been perpetrated by the media, and by politicians who want certain people to vote for them. Just put it out there, and let it fly. Say it over and over, and people think that it is true. I saw a reporter interviewing college students recently. He gave them a quote from Kamala Harris, and they thought it was a quote by Donald Trump. They did not like the quote, when they thought it came from Trump, but as soon as the reporter told them, it was actually a quote from Harris, they started making excuses for it. She really did not mean it. She must have been having a bad day. Are you sure SHE said that? We all have bad days; we all say things, we do not mean sometimes. Just a small sample of what goes on, and how quickly people judge, when they do not know the entire story. Remember when the rumor was started about one of the other girls on Matt's season? Someone spread the rumor that the other girl was an escort. That could have ruined that young lady's life, but most every girl in the house, was willing to run with it, without any evidence, or hearing the other side of the story. Now, everyone is judging Rachael, without the other side of the story. It is a sad commentary for America. P.S. In case you missed it, Matt's mother is white and his father is black.

@@farrismelton9439 "how are you, a white dude, going to tell a black woman what is racist" So white people can't know and experience what racism is? From my understanding racism means to hate someone based on their skin color, and last I checked there's no shortage of hate for white people lol. To be honest with you I don't even think racism is a useful word, the bottom line of racism is HATE. I don't think hating someone of a different skin tone is any better or any worse than hating someone with the same skin color, hate is evil and should be left at that. That's why I think trying to call Rachael Kirkconnell a racist for attending a party is just dumb, how can one honestly come to the conclusion that Rachael hates black people because she wanted to dress up and have fun with her friends?
@farrismelton94393 жыл бұрын
@@EAGLESROCK136 no actually, white people can’t experience racism. We can experience prejudice, or bias, but racism is much more potent because it involves a systemic relationship to power. Given that systemic power rests with white people and always has, white people cannot be victims of racism. There’s lots of literature out there about this that can help you understand. Also, there is a difference in hating someone of a different race (as opposed to someone of your own race), because often times people of color are hated SOLELY because of their race. Finally, I don’t think people are saying the girl hates Black people because of the dress she wore, I think they’re saying the message behind what she did is disrespectful to black people and the tragedies they went through, and that in today’s time, one should know better than to participate in an event like that.

This is so stupid. Why the heck do people care about Matt and Rachel’s relationship??They like each other. She clearly isn’t racist all up on TV professing her love for a black man. Yet she goes to a party and somehow she’s a demon?? So what. I’m not the least bit offended and I’m black. People do dumb things in college and go to parties just to go without considering longterm repercussions. It’s called growth. She shouldn’t need to explain her past if Matt loves and accepts her. People just clearly need more to do. Some people just wanna judge and complain about EVERYTHING. Rachel is beautiful and their love seems authentic. When I was growing up my parents and family had all kinds of racist shit to say about white people yet they were always cordial in their presence. Racism doesn’t just go one way and Rachel’s actions are not in alignment with a racist person. Leave her alone and work on improving your own lives. I’m not sure why the host of this show isn’t more concerned about fixing her unsightly teeth instead of worrying about Rachel C’s past. SMH.

Girl goes to a sorority party, likely having no idea what it actually represented and in her mind it was just a party. Chris Harrison basically says, "Let's all hold on here and wait to hear from Rachel." He also proceeds to say that we shouldn't judge somebody yesterday on today's standards. Let's also not forget that 6 weeks later we find out that she fell for Matt and was the final girl standing. She had no problem introducing him to her family, yet she is now forever tagged as a racist. One girl's life now has a stain on it and another guy has now lost his job of 20 years. I mean, it must be nice to be the moral police and to have never done anything you are ashamed of having done. It's also interesting how the photo of Rachel at the party had all of the other girls' faces blurred out. I get what this is about and it's shameful what some people will resort to.

I don't usually comment on here but I have to bc I am absolutely appalled. I can't look at chris the same way after this. This interview was a perfect example of a white man trying to take control of a Black person's narrative. Telling a Black person how to feel or not feel, when to feel or not feel it... Do you not see Rachel Lindsay is a Black woman, chris?! Don't you get it?!?!? That is exactly what the issue has been during these past two centuries. Wrong is wrong. There shouldn't be a timetable for acknowledging wrongdoing. It's those delays in acknowledging wrongdoing throughout history that have perpetuated the notion that racism is acceptable. Clearly the George Floyd protests didn't resonate with him. This is so, so, sad. Also: The irony in all of his statements. Saying rachael can't do right bc social media is vile when in reality this franchise thrives off of social media and every mass-based reaction it gets for fabricating nasty drama every season. Most obvious irony: him telling us to remain patient bc we don't know what she is going to say when he is SO visibly advocating for her. Nothing says promoting impartiality like having already made up your mind, chris. You are an enabler, chris.
