I keep a deck in my car, but rarely skate cause I’ve been making Large BMX bikes with front suspension so I was ripping those instead. Problems began... the day before Holloween I bombed a hill, hit a sewer grate, smashed my face, out a tooth into my Lip and got some dissolvable stitches. No Big Deal. Then, Nov 10th, I hit a metal rope that has some give to it, ones they use to keep cars from parking in big concrete lots, I hit one of those mobbing on a bike with no brakes trying to launch this thing, lost speed on some little pebbles and got stuffed by this Metal Thing. Boom. Knocked out, had a homie with me, kinda remember before it happened... basically I woke up 4 DAYS LATER! I was in an ICU and had two brain surgeries back to back, so my head wouldn’t stop my brain from the massive swelling it was undertaking after I smashed that Chain. Thank God it was here in Portland, where they have neurosurgeons that are the finest in the Northwest. I Donely am I not a vegetable or paralyzed, although it took me a minute to start walking again, eight days in the hospital, one month at home and now it’s Christmas and I am completely OK so how. 15 staples in the head, A bunch of non-pain killing medicine, and one hell of a brush of luck, and I’m able to describe this incident. Either way, haslam Is sick and I wouldn’t suggest this to him but most everyone else in the world… Wear a Helmet. I’m 36 and I’ve been hearing it since I was 12 years old never even listened to that statement Without turning it out. This is no joke, you can ruin your ability to skate or walk or talk if something bad happens to your head. So if you think “you might wreck , but you’re gonna stop it” ... just think what you could loose. I’m serious, wear a helmet.

This is my favorite Chris Haslam video for a couple reasons. It's just the latest one of his countless creative parts through out the years. I remember watching him like 10 years ago. He gets more creative everytime and does something never before done. Its just great to see him still expressing himself through skateboarding. That was deep.

I met Chris Haslam at a donut shop in San Clemente about 15 years ago. It was around the time the first almost video came out and his part was insane. I recognized him right away. I went up to him and asked him if he would buy me a pack of smokes since I was underage at the time. He said yes and bought me the pack. Respect.

One of my favourites of all time. Had the pleasure of skating with him once at a late night sesh at the old Richmond indoor skatepark and once at the old Ladner park (BC) Great time was had by all attending circa 2008. Never forgot how Chris made everyone part of the sessions and with the 3 year olds grin on his face constantly. Cheers Chris!
