@nele5138 жыл бұрын
+Josiah Findley then what do you suggest he would have said? Because as far as I can see, he never even shared his own opinion on it. His love for the happiness of his daughter might be so great he just said something he doesn't believe in. Do you know for sure? Can you read his mind? Don't think so. He just chose for his child to be a child, worry free. Is that really that bad?
@Thebiggestdouglas8 жыл бұрын
+Josiah Findley I agree
@Michael-xe3cm8 жыл бұрын
+Josiah Findley Yeah but you're forgetting people are born different. I don't understand your nature intended argument. Nature doesn't make identical beings and nature is random. Some people are born without legs & other parts of their body, mental illnesses, autistic, terrible chronic diseases, heart defects, and etc. There has been research into transgender people, and scientists believe a chemical imbalance happens while you're a developing fetus. Something happens while you're developing to basically cause a person to have the brain of a male inside a woman's body. Transgender is not a mental disorder. There is 8 billion on the planet, so it's expected for these type of scenarios to happen. It's a small percentage just like people being born without an arm, but it doesn't mean it's a mental disorder. If a person can be born without a limb, why is it so hard to imagine a person's brain chemistry being altered during development? Also, we do use our full brain capacity. The whole we only use 10% of our brains is false, that would be pretty inefficient.
@lanaroxxana98347 жыл бұрын
Edward Caplan the mental illness is caused by not being able to transform your body into your gender identity and suffering from judgement because of it and living in constant shame. They aren't born mentally ill. Their body s faulty, not their mind. What would you say is more your identity? Your mind or your body?
@ecaplan097 жыл бұрын
Lana Roxxana but majority don't feel any better after surgery, I agree it's very sad that they feel like they're trapped in the wrong body but imo that's a mental disorder not the wrong body... It makes a lot more sense that the mind has got it wrong and not the body you were born with

The fairytales like in Disney don't all have useless princesses only waiting for their Prince to come save them. Ariel saved Eric from the shipwreck first, Belle was brave enough to take her father's place in the dungeon AND saved the Beast from being a beast forever, Jasmine was a sassy independent girl who fought alongside Aladdin, Pocahontas saved John Smith from being clubbed to death, Mulan saved all of freaking China, etc etc etc. I don't know why everyone complains about it

To be fair, those are also the oldest ones. I actually love Cinderella, it's just plain, simple, charming. Sleeping Beauty and Snow White though... my heck I cannot even... Sleeping Beauty actually makes me angry, she's such a waste of cartoon space.
@diegopineda83018 жыл бұрын
Well Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping were made in different times that reflected to the norms back then. I personally like the older princesses better than the newer ones since there is a nice romantic quality to them, in terms of animation, plot, and songs.
@matcharafa8 жыл бұрын
+Jazzy Faye I think it's more complicated than that. The examples you've listed are great and I LOVE disney and princesses. But, I can definitely love them and still see that they provide a very consistent portrayal of girls, that young children are socialized into: that girls (and their stories) are defined around boys. As well, the older disney princess movies all portrayed a similar type of arc/ending, prioritizing romantic relationships. It's important to show young girls and boys many different types of role models, people, and stories. Plus, it's fun to look at these stories from a different perspective.

I genuinely don’t think his daughter had the thought of being transgender in her head. When I was younger, I wanted to be a boy, but here I am 18 years old and I no longer want to be a boy. I never had that “I’m trans” mindset as a 4 year old. Most kids don’t. Not everything like this automatically means they want to be trans or that they’re gay or bi. Children have big minds. They’re just being kids. They’re not making such big life changing decisions at 4.

Besides, Max just meant that if his parents had a similar mentality to Chris Hemsworth's regarding this topic that he would have been able to take hormone blockers at a young age and wouldn't have needed top surgery. Whether or not Chris' child is trans (not "a tran," take note) is irrelevant to the point Max was making.

Little girls wanting to have a penis is not about being transgender in this age, it's just a normal phase of a few phases in the mental development, it's about getting to know the own body and the body of the opposite gender, -> infantile sexual development phases, yes, children have that, it's normal. The Oedipus complex is linked to that, and all of that is rather necessary for a normal sexual development. It can get really complicated later in life if the child didn't live through these phases **sigh**

whenever someone says "damsel in distress" now, I think about Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen. I haven't seen either, but the whole plot is the president needs to be saved. does that imply that he is weak and can't save himself? I don't think so. why does everyone say that a woman "needs to be rescued" and that means "she is weak."
@mrzoohasaninn8 жыл бұрын
+Derek Ihrke Probably because of the fact that over the years when a woman has been in the position, that's all she's ever been, a pawn in the story to be saved. So it's not necessarily that someone has to be rescued, but whether that's all they're there for. Also, even in the examples you gave, those male 'damsels' tend to fight back and try things to get out. They're active and engaging, while as writers, especially male writers, just tend to have the female just kind of sit there and wait for rescue. Also another issue is just down to numbers. Men are portrayed as the heroes, not the victims/damsel, far more often than women are. Not to say that it isn't getting better, because it absolutely is. Movies and TV are getting way better about this, but we still have people who are way more comfortable seeing a woman get saved than a woman doing the saving. After all, we now have female leads (and male co-leads, but that's beside this point) in Star Wars and I see men all over the place claiming that the only reason a female is the hero is because of PC reasons.
