I was born in 63 but I remember watching all the sitcoms reruns in the 70s Gilligan's island,Beverly hillbillies ,I dream of genie.. every made up band had one member with the square glasses, what a tremendous legacy the byrds had on American culture ! I love watching your tour videos and can't tell you how many times I've played the ed Sullivan show over and over.. total awesomeness

Chris's "Have You Seen Her Face" from the Younger Than Yesterday album is one of my all-time favorite Byrds songs. Hillman really knows how to write great music!

'Seen Her Face' is also one of my favorite Byrds songs. The other band members were completely knocked out by it when he first played it for them, according to close sources.

Hillman had #1 hits with The Byrds, #1 hits with the Desert Rose Band, formed the Flying Burrito Bros with Gram Parsons, Chris Etheridge, and Sneaky Pete, played on most of Gene Clark's albums, and The Souther Hillman and Furay Band... yet, he is still under valued. He is the consummate Team Person.

He saved the Byrds after Gene left and kicked butt on all the songs and vocals. Love C & H.

Of all the original Byrds, Hillman and Gene Clark were the best songwriters and produced exceptional music long after the Byrds broke up.

Chris seems like a very humble guy He is also still close friends with Bernie Leadon from the Burrito Days according to a Bernie’s KZbin interview Chris had a lot of respect for the professionalism of the Eagles These long friendships speak volumes about his character.

His counterpoint bass line on "...Rock and Roll Star" is one of the weirdest out there, but it works wonders. Love him

I will be buying Chris’s book - he was in two of my favorite bands. Every single one of the Byrds first 6 albums has been an influence on music and culture and Chris was there at the center of it. Christopher - I love your music.

Wish the Byrds had all shared Chris's rosy recollection of the group when they were making those first five records. Easy to see who was the sanest member of the group and likely one of the strongest reasons they stayed together for as long as the original group did. For fans familiar with the group's personal dynamic, it's pretty well understood that they were burdened with a ton of problems, better left for psychologists, rather than musicologists, to analyze. The fact that they all sat at the same table at the RRHOF dinner doesn't necessarily mean they weren't thinking of separate tables when they first surveyed the room.

Chris is one of the best bass players and mandolin players ever, imo, along with his other considerable talents. I want to ask him about his songwriting contributions to the Notorious Byrd Brothers, because they’re great and nobody ever does. Chris seems like a very genuinely nice person.

Those bass lines, worked out with some input sometimes from other band members or producers, but ultimately Chris', were unique, inventive and brilliant...excluding the first album where excellent studio musicians were used. Chris' songs were also unique and brilliant. He is a multi talented, excellent musician of the highest caliber. THANKS Chris!

damn...Why am not 15 years older???...what was wrong with my parents???....Love that early period of folk...gerde's folk city, bob dylan, joan baiez...joni....i am an infant at age 60.....I'll give myself one thing, i was in a clique in high school, and we might have been the only kids hip to the byrds turn turn album and the notorious byrds....this was about 1975.......it made us feel even older than hillman and macguinn.....but they really instilled in us not only a coolness, but a music lesson....that you could play folk muisc on a 12 string and sing about "shaking your sculls".......I feel they are some great teachers, i had teachers that age in junior high, and they also turned me on to these kind of sounds and attitude....again, i wish i was older, i would have loved to be in L.A. at that time, and turning david crosby onto some of my tunings, and maybe smoke a joint with hillman....these guys were "the bomb" and still are.
