Right. I appreciate you acknowledging that. This is a song Chris Isaak wrote and recorded for his 1989 "Heart Shaped World" album, and it's a classic. Others have done cover versions, some stronger than others. What I hear in this live version is the heartbreak and the melancholy, even the devastation of feeling that after dealing with such powerful unrequited love there is no chance of love.

I think he knows how it was intended to be sung. He wrote and recorded it.

Chris Issak wrote the song. His version is the original iconic version that everyone knows.

Chris’ vocal inspiration was the great Roy Orbison- iconic singer /songwriter “ Pretty Woman”.

This is a rare occasion, where a live performance sounds better than the studio version.

Chris Isaak is a much underappreciated artist imo. His album, Heart Shaped World, was on heavy rotati9on on my CD player. A stone cold classic.

He didn’t turn it into anything. it’s his own song,he wrote it and had an enormous hit with it.

Such a moody song; the video for the song, which starred Chris and a model, was so sensual that it pushed the envelope at the time; modest compared to the garishness of today; it was pure beauty. And all we girls had a crush on him ❤😂

Chris always had the ability to make every woman hearing him sing believe firmly that he was singing directly to and for her and only her.

The words to this song does something wonderful. It takes a point of view in the present (which is actually in the future) and looks back at the past (which actually the now). Think of it this way, "...if I knew then what I know now..." It is beautiful. The narrator is thinking about it now and speaking to his younger self. Another powerful example of transcending time is a song called "Old Man," by Neil Young. In the beginning he is a young man speaking to another person who is an old man. By the end of the song, he is an old man reflecting on life and speaking back to himself when he was the young man. - I'm enjoying your reaction vids, Mug. Take a look at how you write your titles and embed captions on thumbnails. You want viewers to be able to know what it is before they click on it.

Chris is super funny live as well as a great singer - I took my daughter to see him for a Christmas show and he came up to the second floor and did his Elvis cover of Blue Christmas which was AWESOME! Don't think he doesn't have many hits....dude is SOLID GOLD

The reason Chris sings the song with the correct emotion is likely because he wrote this song for a girl he met while in Hawaii. He knew that she was leaving and didn’t want to get to attached to her but he did fall in love with her. He didn’t know how to tell her so he wrote the song to express how he felt to her. Chris explained that when he says “I don’t wanna fall in love with you” it’s because he was scared to get hurt. Chris always sang the song with so much passion because the lyrics were his real feelings to a real woman in his life

Cool that you used this video of the song, but if you are red blooded, then you should watch the actual music video of this song. One of the sexiest videos of all time. Then watch the Tenacious D music video cover of the song (not the live in SiriusXM version)

This is the original version by the man who wrote the song, but you should give the version by Beth Roars a listen. It's a stripped down arrangement with her incredible vocals carrying the song. ✌️

It truly is best to listen first to the studio original music video version, and then go on to a live performance.

You should see this music video. I was really young and this was the moment my parents were like, “You’re no longer allowed to watch MTV without us being present.” They still encouraged musical exploration and indeed did like the song. But the sexual content of the video was too much for them to condone for a child……..and they were probably right, lol. ✌️

I watch reaction videos mostly for the different facial expressions and brief comments to see how someone responds to a song I think is powerful. I hope you won't be slighted if I say that your facial expressions and comments are a bit more edgy. (I'm fine with someone having reservations about a song, how it's performed, etc. That's important to hear.) At times, your facial expressions are almost menacing, a bit scary, then they transition into serious and intent listening. It's you being you, I know.
