This video is my own arrangement of Wicked Game, as performed by Chris Isaak. This is not an exact arrangement of the original, I changed a few things here and there to make it work better on one acoustic guitar...
No copyright infringement intended.
Guitar used: Mayson MS9/SCE, standard tuning
Recording: a pair of Neumann 184's through an Apogee Quartet

The best solo acoustic guitar cover of this song out right now. Subdue, relaxed, not over the top, beautiful. Great job!

Dude I can't believe you still only have 557 subs. Like some of these finger picking guys do too much or go too over the top where sometimes it doesn't even sound that good. Like impressive, but not enjoyable to listen to. You come in with some awesome arrangements that are expressive, approachable and pleasant to listen to. Keep crushing it man!
@TimVanRoy
@TimVanRoy 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the nice words Ryan! It's not hard to get stuck at 557 when you only post 2 vids each year ;-) If there is anyone to blame it's me! I'm trying to work this into a steady schedule and I'll try to post a new vid each week (electric stuff also included).

this is hands down one of the best acoustic guitar channels on youtube with a lot of comprehensive lessons . It takes a lot of time to break them down so meticulously so that every fingerstyle guitar virgin can grasp and learn them . Will be moving on to this piece after nailing your arrangement of windy and warm ! We appreciate you and the amount of effort you put in every single tutorial !

Starting in september I'm dropping a few days of my fulltime job (thanks to my Patreon page) so if all goes well I'll be able to up the pace in which I can post new lessons!

I think, in all honesty, after a whole year, and 2 months. I think I actually nailed this. Thank you. The composition, and feeling is incredible, and your teaching skills are incredible! Ongelofelijke! I can't thank you enough, and i genuinely feel like it has me out of rut i was stuck in. Ive been playing some Newton Faulkner, andy mckee and Michael Hedges, eric roche, for a few years,but this has opened up new dynamic, and really made alot jump into place and make sense for me! I adjusted slightly some of the phrasings to fit perhaps a bit closer to the original (such as the bridge part picked around the 7th fret, woven into the intro) when I play. And still, going back to the full playthrough you do here, it's hauntingly beautiful. Genius

Awesome rendition. Might I suggest some baby powder for the right hand, it completely masks the "sticking" sound during body percussion on guitars with gloss tops. It's a really useful trick!

some good things about this. Melody comes out clear, and nice chord voicings/arpeggios. You're able to keep the tempo even and solid. But the dynamic level is completely static. You're pretty much staying in pianissimo. And the right hand never explores any different colors. You're just stuck over the soundhole the entire piece. Even in a subdued tune like this, there is so much more sound the guitar has to offer. Am i right that you mainly play in the studio and not for live audience very often? When you met Tommy, did he mention any of this? Did he comment on your perpetual pianissimo?

Greetings from Russia!))) Cool, Tim! Thank you for the music. )))) I like this song from my childhood))) I will definitely use your analysis))) I wanted to ask you how much distance do you make between the neck and the strings, 6th and 1st?
@TimVanRoy
@TimVanRoy 4 жыл бұрын
I have a medium action on most of my guitars. In mm's this would be around 2-3 mm for the low E string and 1-2 mm for the top E string!

Hi Radovan! I am for an action of roughly 1,5 mms for the low E string. To measure your action use a capo at the 1st fret and then measure the distance at the 13th fret! This is usually more accurate.
