Good comment on Chris being understated "emotional panic" Not that I'm choosing one or the other but you've got me debating the thought now. Chris seems to be more of a reverie, the loss might be waking up from a pleasant dream, this seems more grounded and has direct potential for emotional loss. Not a tune to mess with just adjust the shade a little bit.

From the original song, I always got the vibe that it was just a person feeling sorry for a not corresponded love. From your version, I get the vibe of a tormented person who is in love with a dangerous person. Something similar happened to me with your version of Toxic. Agreed!!!! I watch a lot of true crime documentaries & could see this version in that exact scenario of being tormented to the point of no return. It’s haunting. Imagine Jodi Arias listening to this as she’s driving for hours to Travis’s house. Or during the murder after he told her he thinks a he’s only good for sex & he’ll never love her. This version reminds me of that. It’s amazingly well performed. Violet is so talented. Anyone can sing a karaoke song, but Violet crafted this to be so different and extreme, in my opinion. I’ve listened to it 5 times in a row. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

For me a big part of it is her changing one word - on the second time she sings "The world was on fire and no one could save me but you", she says "no one could save me *from* you" and it is such a small but genius change. This song never made any sense to me until I heard this version. That tiny change of one word, along with the corresponding atmosphere and Violet's angry rendition of that phrase, just suddenly makes the whole thing click.

Reminds me of "Anemone" from Brian Jonestown Massacre, where the singer is first sad "now that you're not around" but at the end it turns to " *glad* that you're not around". It's the perfect metaphor for a toxic relationship I guess. On rare occasions, I'll hear a song that evokes a very emotional and visceral response. Violet, your rendition of Wicked Game has done just that. The passion, emotion, and tension of the vocals coupled with the musical arrangement literally almost brought me to tears. It reminded me of someone from my past. Sorrowful yet hauntingly beautiful. I'm torn between never wanting to hear this again or letting the emotions from that time in my life run over me. This may seem like an odd way to compliment you, but you've made this song come to life. I hope that you will always continue with your love for music and you're beautiful way of bringing it to the world.

The way she presents this, such passion especially poisonous you can actually feel if you can imagine hearing this how much heartbreak and regret that she had over the imaginary lover in the song having that regret. You can actually feel the emotion of it and her hitting all those notes just right gave me goosebumps. I had to put two ear plugs in just be able to get the full effect of this song, close my eyes while the video was playing and just allowed the music to wash over me. Absolutely cleansing, powerful moving song by Chris Isaak very well done. This lady has remarkable talent...

So yes, it's a great interpretation. Maybe it's also worth taking a moment to appreciate the arrangement. I love how the guitar bridge/arpeggio is here but remains discreet, in a tantalizing manner for those who know the original. Also the voices on the first refrain are already pretty full, only to be topped later by even more powerful ones. And she doesn't feel the need to completely change the melody to, er, "make it her own", like others would. Solid work.
