Almost two decades later and I still say that there is no good reason why he didn't win that year. He did win the Worlds 7 years later (well deserved) and that set was fire but this set still blows that one away.

Age should not detract anyone from finding out how funky this artform is (or should that be "was"?), good to see Gopher enjoys it. Hands down, this set has to be in the top 3 of all dmc routines. The speed of the start/stops is unreal.

all that crap you just mentioned is the reason I didn't continue with competitions =\ I enjoyed the struggle of having to come up with shit with whatever records I could find and not just cut/copy/paste shit on a screen and press play. to be fair, guys were pressing their own records in 2004 when entering battles to compete. like i.emerge blew my mind away with his winning set and his records were put together for sure. but what's different is that you had to make sure that needle didn't skip back then, unlike today you can press a button to make it skipless which takes out that one skill.

@@eatshrots Bro this is why I stopped too. Competitions are more like button pushing contests. Sometimes I'm thinking, why don't they just get rid of the turntables and replace them with NI Maschines and call it a beat battle. You'll see DJs making music more with the buttons than the turntables. DJing used to also have swag in the 90s to early 2000s where there was this cool confident approach to stage presence, and now every DJ has some weird gimmick. All that shit takes away from what they are supposed to be doing, recreating a beat with the turntable as the primary instrument. Now don't get me wrong, I've seen some dope routines that incorporate cues, etc, while still staying within the realm moving the records to the write parts to make the beat, but damn, I've seen way more bad new routines than good ones. The good ones are rare. DJ Craze said this year is his last routine, and he is the only guy taking the modern shit into real Doing. But man, you see the champions of today, it's like we fell backwards. #realdjing

Yeah. It's the same set but performed to perfection. It's stunning; not a beat or scratch out of place even at furious scratch and juggle speeds. He seems a little anxious here and has skipping problems that trip him up which is a shame.
