This is undoubtedly the most in-depth interview of Chris McNally out there. Really enjoyed hearing Chris speak of his varied interests. Love that he has a penchant for the finer things of life but is grounded & real at the same time. 🙂 Hats off to you to Paul for getting Chris to reveal so much and still leaving us feeling there is so much more to him . Now it's clear why Lucas has always come across as a character who has more layers than we have discovered. Chris McNally has managed to imbue some of his personality & complexity into Lucas making that character richer than what the script sets out to paint him. I appreciate this comment a great deal. I favored Lucas from the beginning. His stunning good looks probably factored in at first, but later I believed he was the right choice for so many reasons. I was moved to tears when Lucas selflessly "set her free." Anyways, the point I wanted to make is that I always knew it could go either way. She could have chosen Nathan and I knew that. While I would have been disappointed, I would NEVER have spewed negative comments about the writers or actors or anyone else for that matter. Kindness is a way better way to go, that's just what I believe. How much better to build one another up, instead of tearing each other apart! Thanks again for your comment.

*I had to add how surprised I was that Chris clearly feels the pain of the negativity from the Hearties. Refreshing to see him care so deeply but glad he’s able to laugh it off. I have to say that I was drawn to WCTH during the pandemic. When I realized that Chris McNally and Kevin McGarry had joined the show, I sent for season 6 from AMAZON. It was clear to me from the beginning that Elizabeth would end up with Lucas. They had SO much in common. I ended up purchasing the subsequent seasons and watching them several times! My favorite season is season 9. Lucas is amazingly perfect in his role as a debonair, romantic, mysterious, loving, protective heartthrob!! Chris McNally does an amazing job!!! Can't wait for season 10!

I guess this is old . Season 10 has been ion for a long time . Tonight was season 11 . Nathan doesn’t have any luck with any of his love interests . And Lucas and Elizabeth are having a good perfect wonderful relationship about to marry until season 11 episode . Elizabeth realizes she loves Nathan not Lucas . It was a shocker . They break up . Unless Lucas just wants off the show . It’s crazy . Or Lucas could even get killed . He is trying to save the town and has a lot of haters . Who knows maybe they will even make her run back to Lucas again .

The thing in the way was Elizabeth. Nathan realized that truth too so he dated no one else. Nathan was still in love with Elizabeth even though at that time Elizabeth was still in her safe, comfortable, uncomplicated relationship with Lucas. So once Elizabeth became single again in S11, Nathan & Elizabeth's relationship started transitioning from a solid, strong, friendship & connection + love to a solid, strong, romance + deep romantic & true love.

Elizabeth wanted to live in HV raising Jack Jr. in the community. Also, when Nathan as a friend confronted Elizabeth at the church/school house, Nathan asked her, "Elizabeth, what do you want?" Well after Nathan left she realized she couldn't leave HV because she was still in love with Nathan even though she tried to bury it deep inside. For all these reasons Elizabeth broke up with Lucas. I love how they brought Lucas mysterious past back. The widow Jeanette, Lucas ex-girlfriend Jeanette turned out to be a criminal. Will Lucas be able to keep his job as governor in S12? I wonder what the newspaper reporters will dig up on Lucas' past? This role that Alfonso starting with Lucas having a mysterious past & Lindsay & Alfonso bringing it back up is great for Chris as it makes his character, Lucas way more interesting! Glad they brought up his past in S11.

There you go! And you’re right Michelle! When Nathan came to see Lucas at his Saloon and said to Lucas that Elizabeth told him(Nathan)that Elizabeth loves him(Nathan) but she Isn’t in love with him!(Nathan)So that meant that Elizabeth is in LOVE with Lucas. So there for her heart belongs to Lucas. ❤️ So there for Nathan hearties that Nathan realized it accepted it so he stepped back and let Lucas go after Elizabeth and that was what he did. Nathan never interfered and respected in Elizabeth’s decision so that just to show you hearties that Nathan is quite a gentleman about it and has class. Love it! 👍🏼❤️

It's too bad that more people haven't been taught that lesson!!! Chris, ignore the negative comments. Though negative people are in the minority, they tend to be more vocal. It is obvious that as people see their comments, those with positive feelings are coming out of the woodwork to counter the negative with overwhelming positivity!!! I for one can't wait to see the Lucas/Elizabeth love story unfold!!! It is the BEST storyline that WCTH has developed to date. It is even better than the Jack/Elizabeth storyline!!!

Lucas was the temporary choice. Crazy twist & turns on this show. I do like Chris as a mysterious man with a past as a saloon owner in S6 & S7. I'm glad it was brought back the past at the end of S10 & all S11. Chris plays that well. I prefer Elizabeth with Nathan, but I like Erin Krakow, Kevin McGarry, & Chris McNally. All good actors.

I now got in to this Series, and I love it, I watch it on NETFLIX, I love LUCAS , he has a mysterious charm, the only thing for me NETFLIX has six seasons , and it stopped as Elizabeth's now getting attracted to the two of them, so its a Spoiler for me but I am glad she picked LUCAS, I hope they get the rest of the seasons,as we dont have HALLMARK in the Caribbean.

Not all #teamNathan were haters on Lucas. We just thought Nathan was the right choice for Elizabeth & now we know Lucas was a temporary choice a safe choice. Nathan & Elizabeth are a couple. I'm not hating on anyone though. It's a great show with great actors Erin Krakow, Kevin McGarry, & Chris McNally are all great actors trying to tell a story. They are all friends in real life! I really enjoyed your interview with Chris McNally. I am happy with the decision that Elizabeth chose Lucas. When you go back and look at the episodes leading up to the finale, Elizabeth never had any intimate time with Nathan. He could barely look her in the face and when he finally confessed his love for Elizabeth, she ran (or rode) away as fast as ahe could! On the other hand, Elizabeth had been on dates with Lucas and even went on an overnight (last season and she had the suite and Lucas took regular room) trip. Elizabeth had different times she and Lucas nearly kissed this season. There were never any times like that between Elizabeth and Nathan! The whole season was pointing to Lucas. I just don't understand why people didn't see that and were upset when she chose Lucas. I like Nathan and I'm sure they will have a great storyline for him. I think if she chose Nathan it would be like she was replacing Jack! No one could ever replace Jack. The original story is about a teacher and a Mountie and that's what we got in the first 5 Seasons. Jack was killed in the field exercise with the Mounties. We know from past episodes that Elizabeth respected Jack being a Mountie, but she was sad and frightened when Jack left for each mission. It doesn't make sense to me that Elizabeth would choose.another Mountie! GO TEAM LUCAS! We love you as Lucas Chris McNally. ❤💖❤💖❤💖❤

I was originally team Nathan. But Rosemary explained it Nathan was the season that brought a familiarity, safe place for healing. The episode where Lucas said he just wanted Elizabeth to be happy, he was no longer was going to pursue her. That was the day I became team Lucas. Elizabeth is a city girl...Lucas can connect with her on that level, interests, culture, etc.

They are best of both worlds now. City world and Hope valley town. They connect over interests and books and importantly he understands her and patiently waits for her and it’s always her choice to what she wants and her happiness. Challenge each other and room to grow and build on

Don't act so surprise, Chris McNally is the most handsome , charming , adorable man on the planet! His voice is the one that makes me tingle apart from his gorgeous dimple! If you must know I love man with dimples. But most of all I got a lot of things in common the love of food and I'm passionate about cooking , entertaining , cocktails etc. He is my type of guy. I don't know what I love the most but he is such a down to earth and humble guy which adds to his looks. And he is shy. Amazing that he has it all but doesn't get a big head. What you shared about how people reacted to the outcome of Elizabeth romantic life show how people are completely out of control emotionally and psychologically. I think it is a good indicator of people's maturity as well as their emotional and psychological health. I hope one day they'll see their need for change and growth as a person, and come to know what civism means and its importance for living in society. People who in an unrestrained and vitriolic way let others know what they think gives proof of how many laudable values they are lacking, such as : respect, consideration, a willingness to understand the other party, humility and many others. I live in Spain and I don't get to watch the whole series, just bits and pieces of episodes; but I've got to watch Elizabeth and Lucas relationship and I love how it ends. Thanks for the life lessons you share on this friendly talk, they are inspiring and add to our lives. Thank you! 🌻

I am happy that Elizabeth chose Lucas. I thought it was a nice end to Season 8. 🙂 I admit, I thought she would choose Nathan because it seemed to fit more with the Hallmark formula-- single parents making an instant family. Also, many of us have limited knowledge of the entertainment business. We know the show is fictional, but don't view things through the same lens as professional actors. Just wanted to share why some may react strongly. No excuse for berating though.

Paul, you are not only an outstanding actor and musician, you are also an excellent interviewer. I love watching your podcasts! When Calls the Heart has been my favorite TV show since the first episode of Season 1. All of the characters are such great actors! I thoroughly enjoyed your interview with Chris McNally and, also, with Kevin McGarry and Andrea Brooks. It is so good to see a personal side of these great actors. Even though I have enjoyed Lucas' character, I have always been a huge team Nathan fan. Kevin McGarry is such a convincing actor that I thought Nathan was destined to be with Elizabeth. Elizabeth's comments to Nathan in the middle of the last episode of Season 8 broke my heart. Oh, goodness, life must go on. I went back and reviewed some of the scenes with Lucas and Elizabeth, and they do have a great love story (if you can leave out the scenes with Nathan and Elizabeth). I am looking forward to Season 9 and the great stories to be told. I do hope the writers will reunite Carson and Faith, give Nathan a fantastic future, and share more of the Lucas and Elizabeth romance along with all of the other great stories of Hope Valley. it is amazing how much we can let ourselves get wrapped up in a fictional story. I guess that is what great acting and story writing are all about. Thanks to you and all of the cast and crew of When Calls the Heart for helping us to escape into the world of Hope Valley! I wish the show much success in the future! I also look forward to all of the endeavors of each of the actors on the show. It is a joy to watch quality acting and to see these interviews with quality people! Keep up the great work!

Thx for the interview. Hearing Chris's audtion story was cool. I still think Lucas is a way cooler character, and can play with more and more potential and with Elizabeth. Also the scene that was made up for the audition, that would of been cool to see in the show if they started out like that. But i liked their first meet in the show.

I love the character Lucas. I am ecstatic over Elizabeth's choice. I liked Jack, but I love Lucas so much more than Jack. Lucas puts Elizabeth first before even himself. Jack put his job first above everything. Chris McNally brings Lucas Bouchard so beautifully to life. I follow all of Chris's works and love him as an actor. Through interviews such as this one, I love Chris as a person. Chris is a humble and kind human being. I am a member of Chris's fan club and I absolutely adore him. ❤

I have always thought that you both bring a lot of authenticity to the roles that you play because of the men you are, and this discussion just confirmed it. As for the negativity led by a small group of very vocal people... I think that the isolation of Covid has caused some people to have some difficulty differentiating fiction from reality. I know that you both are Canadian, but you must also be aware of the rancor, discord and great divisions in the political discussion of your neighbors to the south of Canada that has spilled over into the way some people view everything. Please know that there are many of us who are fans of the series in large part because of your characters. I look forward to the next season of WCH and wish you both all the best.

I love Chris McNally. He is such a great actor, and I will say that I, for one, am glad the script writers at Hallmark chose him as the chosen guy for Lori on “When Calls the Heart season 8 finale.” Chris makes a perfect gentleman character in the show for “Lori”, who is most definitely a refined lady for that period of time. I think he will prove to be her life long love, partner, and best friend, who helps her become successful as a writer, pushing her to be the best she can be. Also, I listened to the cast interviews, and I really admired that Chris keeps his family life personal. That’s rare and I think more actors and actresses would have more successful family lives and marriages if they would do that, so “kudos” to him. 👍

I can't believe how many comments are out here. I'm so happy for Paul that his KZbin posts are getting so much traffic.. I like to listen to the podcast and then watch them later. I have been so excited for the interview with Chris but wanted to make sure that I could devote uninterrupted time as I love these 2+ hour interviews. Paul does such a wonderful job of having an organic conversation with his guests, and this one was no different. I was not a "Team" anyone but I am happy with the Lucas/Elizabeth outcome. Nathan or Lucas would've been a great choice but I really like the kind of person Elizabeth is when she's around Lucas. She seems less pensive, happy and free. I love Lucas' wardrobe and Chris is very handsome ♥♥ (I'm a big fan of a "trimmed" beards.. no ZZ Top styled beard for me, plz) Even though I was not a LHOTP fan growing up, I am a fan of WCTH and never miss an episode (In season 3, I had to watch season 1 and part of season 2 to catch up ). I love all the characters and appreciate the stories they're telling is about all the residents of Hope Valley.

Chris, you are on the receiving end of the vitriol only BECAUSE of the character you play, not because of who you are. The fact that viewers are THAT passionate to be angry is a testament to the show and how invested they are in the characters but not the person. I was always #teamlucas, and yet I hope #teamnathan fans find a way back to Hope Valley, because isn't that what it's all about. Side note, do you two know what a great head of hair you have? It made me so sad to hear the negative messages/comments Chris McNally was receiving from some supposed fans. Broke my heart that people "think" they have the right to say anything negative about someone as kind and sincere as Chris McNally. Keyboard courage can be so hateful and (in my opinion) the people capable of such mean comments are bitter and not satisfied with their own lives. These people are insignificant and Chris McNally should ignore them, but it still stings and you can't help but be hurt in some way ... we are human and he doesn't deserve it. Having said that, just hold your head high Chris McNally and know your incredible worth, talents ... and yes, you are a very handsome man!

I loved watching this and learning more about Chris. Since Lucas and Nathan came to Hope Valley I have fallen in love with both guys. In season eight (about mid season) I REALLY started wanting Elizabeth to end up with Lucas. His character truly helped her grow while giving her so much unconditional love and patience. After everything she has gone through she deserved that love. I would have still been happy if Nathan was chosen because his character is such a great guy too. Chris and Kevin are INCREDIBLE actors who have brought both characters to life in this series. I love watching all Chris' Hallmark movies and am so glad he joined the When Calls the Heart Cast. I have been an active follower of the show before it even aired on tv. My mom was given the original pilot movie and season one to review for her online Christian magazine. I will continue to follow these wonderful characters to the end. Thank you Paul for sharing this with us! Be blessed!
