A lot of these songs, because British music was so strong in the early and mid 80s, you didn't realise how good they were at the time. Now, in this era of mediocrity, they sound fantastic. I like these songs at least as much as the best Dire Straits songs, which they sound a bit like.

Life is what you make it. Stop living in the past ffs
@Nicholas_Chris2 жыл бұрын
@@SGW4K Yes, life is what you make it. If you have a great life good for you. But we live in times where life is hard for most people, economic instability, riots in some parts, unemployment, must work two jobs to pay the rent, bills, food and have some savings, work hard for a crap wage. And the NGOs and politicians (both left and right) ruined our society, I see people arguing which one is better, in reality both left and right don't give a damn about people so move on. I hope soon it will be over and we get back to normality. Sometimes past seems heaven on earth, other times past is hell on earth.

I swear, 80% of my childhood memories are about cars, and music. I was about 8 and went to my first big car show in Sydney and as we walked in, this song was playing. I remember I got a photo with The Munsters Koach. I never tire of hearing this song. Chris Rea was massive back in the 80’s and I loved all his songs.

The original hit version here , released as a single in 1987, off the album "Dancing with Strangers" Chris re-recorded this song a year later and sped it up and removed the wonderful horns - opting for synthesized horns instead. The sped up version is OK but nothing beats the wonderful original right here.

Totally agree. The sped up version is the one they keep putting on his greatest hits compilations. The sped up version was done at the same time he re-recorded several other hits. God knows why, there was nothing wrong with the originals
@JJMMWGDuPree5 жыл бұрын
@@awm8221 I think I can, at least, answer that. He was asked the same question in an interview and said that his record label were about to release a greatest hits and in order to head them off he decided to rerecord all his greatest hits with his current group, playing them the way they played them now, which does, of course, lead to another obvious question which the interviewer apparently didn't think of. Why not just record a live show then? At least there would be a point to that.

This song reminds me of my grandfather and his partner that used to go dancing all the time back in the late 80s and early 90s in our rather dreary city. This song used to often play on their tinny car radio on the AM station they had it tuned on to. He died at 88 she died at 70 some years ago now.
