Chris is a phenom. His mastery of his instrument and his iconic deep vocals together with his brilliant storytelling make a perfect match, and frankly, I'm surprised and a little disappointed that not more reactors have so far failed to cotton on to his genius. This track is just sublime from every angle, and I also love one of his other massive UK hits 'Stainsby Girls'. 🙋♂

Hi, I am subscribing now to see you react to Chris Rea's "Curse of the traveler" please. May I post the link, some channels block links? Anyway, it's that Voice with much more of the guitar for you. In terms of albums I would recommend "Blue Jukebox", his ultimate investigation of blues guitar options. After Chris Rea survived cancer, his voice became even more soulful. He is almost 70 now but still tours. He is publicity-shy, just loves guitars and vintage cars but no cameras.

If you listen closely to the very beginning of the song, that ghosting piano line in the background is part of the medley of one of his other classic songs called “tell me, there’s a heaven. “ I have been a fan since 1989 when the road to hell album came out. TEXAS is another great song from that album you should consider.

A new Chris Rea fan i believe!!! Chris Rea should be recognised as a Rock legend!... Rea first became famous in 1978 with "Fool If you Think Its Over" after which his music career hit rock bottom. His manager left him and he was going to give up being a musician. It wasn't until 1983 after a lot of financial toil and trouble that he had his next hit "I Can Hear Your Heart Beat" which was a massive hit, firstly in Ireland and then the rest of Europe. His albums Road to Hell (1989) and Auberge (1991) were the biggest success for him and contain his finest work. He was a very heavy smoker and has been dogged by serious health issues since 1994. He las toured live in 2017.

I play this song every time I have to work in London which is quite a lot. In case you didn`t know, Chris was on his way to London coming off the M40 onto the M25. He got stuck in very heavy traffic as usual. He sat in the car and wrote the song while sitting on the M25. He was under pressure from his producers to come up with a hit song and this was the result.

Pat, glad you finally got to this great guitarist and songwriter. I refer to him as a poor man's Mark Knopfler(Dire Straits), with no disrespect, in that he's that talented but relatively unknown. One hit would be Fool (If You Think It"s Over) but his song Let's Dance is lighter but his Tell Me There's A Heaven is darker and will probably bring a tear to your eye. Mark Knopfler is similar and you should look into his stuff too.
@jane19753 жыл бұрын
@recycler1955: They are both from the Tyneside [ Knopfler ]and Teeside [ Rea ] areas of England and I think they are both talented. Chris has done many other songs besides the ones you mentioned: On The Beach [ 1986 ] Josephine [ 1985 and an 1988 version which is better on New Light for Old Windows album ] about his eldest daughter, Auberge, Road To Hell [ Inspired by the M25 and M4 motorways in peak hour traffic ], Julia [ about his youngest daughter ] also 1989, Stainsby Girls [ about his wife, Joan], Driving Home for Christmas [ 1986 ] and many others.

OK Now that you have discovered one of the greatest rock guitarists out there, you need to listen to this song a few times more and pay special attension to the lyrics. Remember this song is from 1989 and what he sings about is more valid now than ever. But thats just one of the great things about this song. The thumping base and his layed back gutar play are others. Congratulations you have leveled up 😎

Chris Rear (without the last r ) is probably our best slide guitarist."This ain't no technological breakdown. Oh no this is the" M25 London ring road. The river that 'boils with every poison you can think of' is a reference to Londons' River Thames and its' pollution levels at the time. Check out one of his earlier songs, 'On the Beach', a favourite of mine that always reminds me of 1983 when I worked on a holiday camp, even though it wasn't released until 1986, if you can work that out. :¬P. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6KWapmsja94fq8 He is also one of those rare survivors of pancreatic cancer.

Chris Rea (ree-uh) has an ironic take on modern society by telling a parable-like story of a man wandering down a road he's unfamiliar with. Chris Rea is very poplar in Europe (10 albums?) but the Road To Hell album is the only one that hit big in the U.S. That voice! That slide! Those words! He's a musician who is one of the most undervalued from the 80's and 90's. Great composer and ironic lyricist. Not an "upwardly mobile freeway" instead, sir, you are on the Road To Hell! His first "New Light From Old Shadows" album is a gold mine of treasures as well as "Road To Hell". Since you were unfamiliar with this song, I suggest you check out all of his albums.
