The chorus has a strong 80s AOR (adult oriented rock) feel in general, but you might be thinking of Journey. (See for example their 1983 hit Separate Ways). In 2024 though, the 80s have been recycled so many times and for so long that it almost becomes a feedback loop: There’s a blatant ”loan” from Taylor Swift in the vocal melody too. So what is a reference to a contemporary artist influenced by the 80s, and what is an actual 80s reference might not be the easiest to unpack. Dirty Loops are extremely eclectic though, and this is no exception. They are formally trained monster musicians with a vast musical knowledge. They can do anything, and they frequently do. The common thread is the tongue in cheek attitude though, which is needed I think, when you throw the kitchen sink at an audience the way they like to do.

Any Dirty Loops song is hard to categorise, since they mix in different styles, and then put their own twist on top. Try a few, from different times, and see for yourself.
