@RUNANDGUN877 жыл бұрын
I heard about that... I think it's a bit wrong for it to still be called "Chris Reeve Knives"... Honestly change it to Anne whatever knives, or the son's name... but it's just disrespectful to the man to take his company from him and keep his name on it.
@davec36515 жыл бұрын
Do people actually have credible sources that say the company was forcibly taken from him, and that he even actually wanted to continue running it? Do you know for certain the man would like the name to be changed? Perhaps keeping the name continues to honor the man and the spirit he instilled in its upbringing. Changing the name can just as easily (if not more) be seen as a slap in the face. Some men prefer to leave a legacy that continues to be honored, not to have the name removed as soon as they've ceased hands-on involvement. Does anybody here know how long it's been since Chris Reeve possibly stopped being interested in overseeing the mundane daily operations of a company, however great a company it is?

I was a little taken aback when the son implied that the workers who don’t even know Chris knew his philosophy about craftsmanship. What that statement means to me is that Chris is not overseeing or participating in the day to day operations. Think about it....he doesn’t even know his employees? Anyway....I wonder how much Chris is actually involved in the company these days. And, if he’s not involved in making a knife that I want to buy.....do I really want to buy it now?
I think it’s more than retired.research some,I believe he has left the company by force
@Tom_H3277 жыл бұрын
Alan B. I agree. This looks like he lost the company in the divorce. I was looking to get a sebenza at some point, but I’m not sure now. I will/would have paid the +400 bucks for common materials knowing Chris had a hand in making it. But....I dunno now. Maybe on the secondary market. Looks like it’s just another knife company now. How long before they start a budget line? Any guesses? LOL.

I don't understand why they're still using S35VN. For the asking price, I expect a higher end steel.
@0neTwo37 жыл бұрын
Because it is well balanced between edge holding, toughness, and corrosion resistance..... S35Vn isn't as chippy as other long edge holding stainless steels, and is more corrosion resistant than higher performing tool steels. Makes perfect sense to me.
@nathan_navaja7 жыл бұрын
Because Chris developed that steel. Makes sense for the company to use it. But they are overpriced for what you get.
@holybotulism3137 жыл бұрын
I would be worried about chipping a fixed blade, not so much a gentlemen's folder. I just think an ultra premium knife warrants an ultra premium steel.
@jasonjennings84657 жыл бұрын
S35VN is a good steel the average joe should be able to get sharp easily. As long as being durable enough to withstand some harsh environments.

Unfortunately she pushed Chris right out of the company. It's never gonna be the same in my eyes. He built that company up with his hard work and good name and she takes it over and acts like he's still got some kind of say. Sad the world we live in. I am so thankful I got my lefty way before he was pushed out. If she wants to do the right thing she will push him back in and restore the Chris Reeves good name. Just one man's opinion. Just like butt holes they all stink. Cheers
@virulentcharm6 жыл бұрын
Chris Reeve is an artist and after spending about 40 years making knives the guy just wants a break from it all. He’s happily retired spending his free time crafting anything but knives. Besides Tim and Anne saved the company because Chris actually just wanted to shut it all down. Personally, after meeting Tim, I’m more than glad with the direction he’s taking the company because he has a passion for innovation but has to carefully tote the older customers into that new era.

Heres the thing... yes CR knives are beautiful and machined to an insane level (as mentioned in the vid). But all that work and expense isnt NECESSARY to create a strong, sharp, working tool. People are paying for the art of the thing, which is fine. But understand you're not gaining any functional improvement over another quality knife just because CR chamferd a corner to 0.00001 instead of another guys 0.0001. In spaceships and satellites, that probably matters. In pocket knives, not really.

@Landoftheignorant7 жыл бұрын
So they can tell people they spent $400 on a knife. Somewhere around the $275 mark, all blades lose any sort of return on material/build quality/machining and its all profit for the brand name.
@max_archer7 жыл бұрын

Yeah, and I wonder if chris reeve still considers a flipper a "gimmick" or a "Fad". The ONLY reason he hasn't made one is because they can figure out how to get their lockface to not collapse or else they would have to use another "gimmick" the lockbar insert. Sorry, but companies in china are proving 10 fold that quality can be attained anywhere.

I just don't get the attraction to Chris Reeve knives. I have an Umnumzaan. It's a nice knife sure, but the tolerances aren't anything better than what I find in my Spartan, Hogue, Microtechs, hell even some of my Benchmades and Spydercos. Also, the tip of the Umnumzaan is too close to the end of the handle and can easily cut your finger. But what really boggles my mind is their designs - so bland and dare I say it, cheap looking!
