Kills me to say this as a 49er fan, but I’d rank Wilson higher than Mahomes at this point. Mahomes is a freak of nature, but he also has weapons around him and a great play caller in Andy Reid. Wilson has Lockett, who may be the 3rd best WR if he were on the Chiefs, and Metcalf, who has major upside but is still fairly raw. Seattle’s o-line has been average at best for the last five years as well. Wilson’s the only reason Seattle has been more than a .500 team the last couple of seasons because their defense has been subpar as well.

I'm fine with ranking Lamar at #5 if the criteria for best quarterback is "pure passing", ie, just their passing mechanics and efficiency. However, when you take into account what Lamar brings to the table as a runner? And Simms has used running and mobility as a criteria for other QBs he has mentioned in the top 40, so I'm not just making this up, but if you include running, there is no way Lamar isn't the second best QB in the league. Both for Lamar's production himself as a runner, the running lanes Lamar creates for his running backs, the way he makes the job of his Oline much easier, the rest he provides for the defense on the long drives he sustains. It's insane; Lamar is giving you elite production as a thrower of the football, AND is probably a top 3 rushing weapon in the league, when you take into account avg rush yards, explosive plays, etc. I should also say that while I'm fine with lamar at #5 if the criteria is pure passing, I do not think Watson is a better thrower of the football than Lamar. At this point, the only QB's more deadly through the air than Jackson are Mahomes, Rodgers, and Wilson. Jackson's advanced stats throwing the ball are insane.

@@turc9808 this is just dumb on multiple levels, because always just say "plaYoFfS" without really thinking about it. The first one against the Chargers, then; Lamar was literally the youngest QB in NFL history to start a wildcard playoff game, he had taken over the offense midway through the year, he was a rookie, and the Charges manhandled our entire offense. The pass rushers abused our O line in their 1 on 1 matchups (which was the real limiting factor), they had the athletes necessary to contain Lamar on the outside, and our Oline also got crushed up the gut. You will recall that the Patriots actually did to the chargers what we would've done to them in 2019; they used a fullback, heavy formations, and powered through the faster, lighter personnel the Chargers rolled out. Lamar obviously sucked that game, but given the circumstances, it is weird to hold that against him; No QB would've done well in that situation. Against the Titans, Lamar and the ravens moved the ball with EASE; just look at the yardage totals, and if you'd like, look at some of the beautiful throws Lamar connected on in the game. Lamar's issue that game were turnovers, two of which were totally on him (the second INT on a bad read on an out, and the strip sack where he held the ball wayyyy too long), and the two failed 4th down conversions, one which the Titans scored off of the very next play. The Titans didn't "figure" Lamar out; the offense turned the ball over (including 4th downs) 5 fucking times in the game. How many playoff teams are you going to beat when they win the turnover battle by +5? Was the Titans game his best game? No, of course not; but the QB that played in the Chargers game and the Titans game are literally incomparable, just by the eye test, so I don't know why people keep bringing the games up as if they have anything in common.

If there was a draft Lamar goes 2nd behind Mahomes.

Mahomes is great (long time chief's fan here so I'm biased) but I see his one weakness which is also a strength: emotions. His intensity can get out of control as he wants it so bad. It's what drives him forward but it can also lead to him being erratic at times. He can do anything and his top enemy is himself. If he can stay healthy and the Chief's can keep a strong cast around him he will be the greatest of all time. But life isn't certain and things happen, to us all so I will be trying to keep my own emotions in check so I don't have a heart attack on every play he drops back to pass. Here's hoping fate smiles on him for the next 17 years.
