Pure perfection, Chris & Bill together, throw in the jazziness of Patrick, the sax, and at the 6:00 minute mark throwing in his voice as an instrument. Bruford's drum fills at the end, the TONE of the bass itself, which for 30 years I thought was a Rickenbacker. Perfect composition, I regret its so short.

I was aware of this album growing up but it’s only been within the last two years that I’ve listened to it. I think it’s great! I love the sound of the drums in the mix. The album Zenyatta Mondatta by The Police is also mixed in a way that the drums are prominent without taking over. It’s my favorite album by The Police because of that mix. I’m a huge fan of Copeland and Bruford so any time they stand out in a mix, I’m happy! 😁

I remember a high school buddy getting this before I did and he called me excitedly going, "It's jazz!" Maybe it was to our young brains at the time, though the jazziness is really only on the edges. I'd describe it more as funky 70's rock. But you never go wrong with Chris and Bill together. Mmmm.... I think it was on the deluxe reissue of FOOW that Chris gave the background to this track: They had a nanny who looked after his kids, and one day she was pretty down and when asked she complained that her love life wasn't going so well. Chris' response was this song, to say "Hey, you're not getting any today, but you might get lucky tonight."

The best track on the album indeed! I remember how disappointed i was when Going For The One came out. I know I know: Awaken. But the jazzier stylings of Relayer and Fish Out of Water, + Patrick Moraz's The Story of I (jazz/brazilian sci-fi space opera) led me to believe they were going to get further down this road. Too bad Squire never made another solo album. Bruford and Moraz did continue on jazzier ventures though.

Sunshine through the the window, Squire's in the mornings, 'sonic heaven'. The best track on the album? Could be "Lucky Seven". Chris's solo work should be played with much more "Frequency Kevin"! Peace & Love.

Terrific song, on a great album! I love Chris's vocals and his bass playing. Hmm, I wonder if anyone else thinks Sting's vocals sound an awful lot like Chris's vocals. This song almost sounds like it might have been made by The Police in another life. Sting is a tremendous singer, and The Police are great, so I'm complementing Chris by the comparison. I wonder if Chris inspired Sting in his playing and singing? ❤✌

Love these deep dives into prog band members solo projects. There was so much good music in that time period that between school, marriage, kids and work, a lot slipped by me. This inspiring jazz rock number always reminded me of a Traffic song that also has saxophone part, and might also possibly be at least partially in 7/8 time - "Glad" from Traffic's John Barleycorn Must Die album. "Lucky Seven" stays on that electric piano theme, though, while Traffic's "Glad" has a slower, menacing second part. I noticed that a year ago, there was a lsiten of the "Barleycorn" title track a year ago, but there was no followup to the first track "Glad" and "Freedom Rider". Forgotten, perhaps?

Hi Justin. Dave from London, with Friday On My Mind. Back in the 70s, I used to shy away from solo albums by band members, mainly because there were so many great band albums to save up for. But I've been enjoying your reactions to this one, and I agree Lucky Seven is the strongest track so far. Terrific instrumentally, and I want to single out Mel Collins' sax He was probably the best known sax session player back then, and I love his breaks here - a breath of fresh air. Now, here's my gripe. I am not fussed on Chris' lead singing - no problem with his backing and harmonies, and of course they were brilliant in Yes.

Groovy, man. But I think I liked it best in the beginning where they kept dodging the groove before it could catch them. (There's a certain satisfaction where the music finally starts to behave itself, and stop "playing the giddy goat", but it's also in danger of becoming familiar, there. Sometimes the riskier parts of the song are better.) You might have missed this one: Not long ago *Trio Mandili* (and their camels) went *Bum Pan* . @@jimhardiman3836 actually, on 2, 4, and 7. Those aren't "ands" but quarter notes, it's 1 ans 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7, as you said, but the 'ands' are the eighth notes. But the difference is blurred by how you play it anyway. I've been playing drums 60 years now. Rock on!

@TerrysQuest
@TerrysQuest Жыл бұрын
@@jimhardiman3836 this felloe explains it better than me. "Conversely, I think 7/4 doesn't follow that pattern - it's a "big measure" with more or less equally weighted quarter notes (in the same sense that 4/4 is more or less equally weighted quarter notes, there can be a small difference in stress, but not enough to consider the unstressed beat to be a subdivision). It could be a compound bar or 2/4+2/4+3/4, but it doesn't have to be, and the degree of subdivision is less pronounced than in a standard 7/8." I agree about the seven even steps to the measure. But no animals will be harmed either way!
