It is hard to believe he used to write songs for others bc he didn't have confidence in his singing. He amassed credits writing and co-writing over 170 songs. He has co-written six number-one country songs including Kenny Chesney's five-week number-one "Never Wanted Nothing More", Josh Turner's "Your Man", George Strait's "Love's Gonna Make It Alright", and Luke Bryan's "Drink a Beer". His songs have appeared on many artists albums including Adele, Brad Paisley, and Dierks Bentley. He has co-written with several artists as well including Vince Gill, Peter Frampton, Sheryl Crow and Ed Sheeran. Thank God his wife convinced him to quit writing for other people and to start a solo career. By far the best singer out today and is right up there with the greats of the past!

If you haven't heard him with "The Steeldrivers" you should check them out he was on their second album "Reckless" in 2010. "Ghosts of Mississippi" is my personal pick and his song "Barely Alive" is listed as "The Jompson Brothers" on Pandora so i assume that's another band he was in.
