Chris Stapleton was actually a member of the crowd, and when the band found that he was at their concert, they asked him on stage, so he's saying that song just out of the blue. Lol

Fun fact. Chris went to a Madea Play. During intermission he started singing Tennessee Whiskey sitting in the audience. Needless to say everyone was shocked and excited!

@camcris6387 Chris is so much better LIVE. If you haven’t, please react to “Tennessee Whiskey (Austin City Limits)” performance his wife Morgane sings harmonies w/him. Everyone else doing it copies his version. This song u reacted to band saw him in audience asked him if he’d sing a song. Crowd picked song. Not his band, no rehearsal and he slayed it! Chris is a living Legend. Labeled Country but he’s soul,blues, R&B & Outlaw Country all in 1 amazing voice. He’s in his own genre!

He was scheduled to perform with the band that night as were 3 other acts. He was invited to perform by email after getting acquainted with the Shadowboxers at a different event. HE WAS NOT JUST PULLED FROM THE AUDIENCE. However, he did not know which song he would be performing as the audience chose the song for every performing act based on the Shadowboxers' catalog of songs they knew how to play. So, no, there wasn't any rehearsal or practice prior to this performance. As you could plainly see from the band members' reactions.
