React to ’What Are You Listening To?’ Chris started as a singer in Steeldrivers. Pretty good bluesy bluegrassy southern rock band. He has also been a songwriter in Nashville for years. He has written songs to about every country star from George Strait to Tim McGraw.

My mom passed away on January 31st of this year, the hardest thing I've ever been through. This song describes what her outlook on life was perfectly. My daughter and I worked on her house to sell it and this song would ALWAYS come on as soon as we left her house. To me, Chris Stapleton embodies everything and is one of the greatest artists of our time. I love how much you appreciate him, too! ❤️

I love your reactions. Thank you for sharing them with us. :) Perhaps one of the words you were looking for in your later commentary was materialism, possessions, status, and / or image? And those at the expense of all else...? Part 1: What I know of Chris Stapleton is he has said in interviews he used to work at a pizza place, and he comes across as supremely humble. :) He's from Kentucky, moved to TN as a very young man (around his early 20s), and was quickly signed by a label to be a songwriter for other vocalists. In an interview you can find here on YT, his wife Morgane stated she was friends with his "song plugger". Morgane said she had a crush on Chris and used to wait for him in her friend's office (the song plugger's), and listen for him to walk down the halls. In a nutshell, they then dated for a few years and married. Morgane also said she felt she knew how to vocally harmonize with him. Part 2: Morgane encouraged Chris to sing his own material, rather than stay a songwriter. He was previously a member of the bands, Jompson Brothers, and The Steeldrivers, before setting off on his solo career. Chris's father died a few years ago, and to try to help him deal with his grief somewhat Morgane encouraged them to take a cross-country road trip (in an old, beat up car that broke down), and that experience was basically the inspiration for his album, Traveller.

Another great reaction. Just for future reference, so you never have to wonder, Chris is always better live but he's still amazing in the studio too so no complaints from me. Just a little fun fact in case you didn't see it yourself. Chris and Morgane were interviewed and the woman told Morgane she doesn't know how she be if her man could sing like Chris. Morgane, without missing a beat, said, "Well, we stay pregnant, so..." I thought that was so cute. I love they way they look at each other.

If you have the heart and courage to hear a song about life's most challenging event. Take a listen to Jackson Browne's "For a Dancer". I saw him perform this song in the mid 70's at a very small venue a day after his wife committed suicide. That's why I mentioned heart/courage to listen. It's great music, but the words are beyond belief. Trust me on this.
