Rupert Holmes is a multi talented singer songwriter. Besides writing material for himself he has written songs for many other artists including Barbra Streisand. He is also a playwright who has written several plays. He actually won two Tony Awards for writing the Music and book for The Mystery of Edwin Drood. He also created the TV show Remember WENN about an old time radio station. He also wrote a couple of mystery novels. He had to put his career on hold for a few years after the sudden death of his ten year old daughter from an undiagnosed brain tumor. A few other good songs of his to check out are Him, Terminal, For Beginners only and Talk. I think that you will enjoy them. Thanks.

Rupert has enjoyed a career spanning decades, with compositions and productions that far surpass this once over-exposed hit. In 1971, he wrote the first hit song celebrating cannibalism (not counting Peggy March's "I Will Swallow Him"), "Timothy," for the Buoys of which he was also a member. Rupert's first solo LP in 1974 on Epic Records, "Widescreen." Barbra Streisand heard it, and loved Holmes' production on it, making it the sonic equivalent of the sweep of a motion picture, and invited him to produce her next album. Thus came Babs' "Lazy Afternoon" LP, on which he co-produced, arranged, and wrote several songs. He wrote songs for many of her following albums, as well. Holmes also produced Sparks' 1976 LP, "Big Beat" for Columbia Records. Songs to dig deeper into Rupert's music would be, "Him," his follow-up to "Escape," which landed at #6 on the Hot 100 charts. "I Don't Want to Hold Your Hand" echoes the Beatles' similarly titled song, but differs slightly in tone and intent. A modern Renaissance man, Rupert has enjoyed success, as well, as a TV writer, novelist, and a playwright. Born a Brit, Rupert moved with his folks to NY state when he was 6. He's currently 74.

To sum it up, fate kept him and his woman together! Maybe even strengthened their bond.

Great song that, unfortunately, has been forgotten.

I listen to that all the time on KZbin; there is a very good, genuinely LIVE version of it where he does a spoken intro to it while playing a few rubato chords on the piano.

I can tolerate the Piña Colada song, but can’t stand “Him”. Also, what’s his problem with yoga?

its not a kinky song, its a song about talking to your lover and connecting to them, they had to take ads out to get to know each other. Neither one of them knew each others fantasies, because they had no communication. its a deep song set in a comedic setting. Just like Hey Ya is a sad song but outkast makes it happy, the lyrics are deep and sad

It's a song about husband and wife or whom ever being in a rutt. Stepping over for some excitement and they find out that they both feel the same way

I Think That The Combination Of Breezy, Jazzy And The (As You Noted) Smile On His Face Is That He Knows (IN THE END) That Yes, It's His Very Own Girl -- His Woman -- His Wife. It's Kind Of Winsome and Lovely To Discover We Were Wrong And Now We're Right.

Yeah that song is always made me appreciate what good communication in relationship is all about. You don't tell your partner what you like what you don't like or what you need and what you don't need you start looking elsewhere because you're relationship is not complete. You got to talk to each other and you'll be surprised how much your needs are similar if you're open and honest and you can both grow together
