This song is straight-up incredible. The story of two lovers who know they shouldn't be together but want that more than anything, is so eloquently told in Chris' lyrics. The smokey, bluesy instrumental opening, perfect drumming and vocal arrangments have turned this song into an instant classic. Starting Over is one of those albums where I was constantly finding new favorites upon each listen but now that I've gone through the entire album, multiple times I think I can confidently say this is my top jam off the new album!

It is indeed an excellent song, and one hell of an album. I had heard a few songs by him over the years, but had never listened beyond a song or two. This song played on the radio during a long drive home at night after being away from home for a long time. I'm glad it did. What an album.

This is straight Al Green influenced. The vocal phrasing, the runs at the end of the lyric line, and stretching of the last vowel of a line, a nuanced falsetto in places, and a Memphis R&B groove. That's all Al Green and I love it.

When you wanted to be strong and have her leave but all you wanted to hear was that she would stay. Ugh it was never fun. With my wife now, I now know what real love is and the power an amazing partner can make you feel you have. Good riddance to that past relationship but I’m grateful to where it brought me, I married the woman of my dreams and have an amazing family. To be much bigger cognitively than the immediate fleeting feeling and recognize with clear headed thoughtfulness and consideration that taking things further will not end well takes a tremendous amount courage on one’s own part to demand an intervention. I thought Tennesse Whiskey made my heart sing - but then I heard, 'You should probably leave' - Soul; Rock; Blues - your music has it all. Your lyrics just hit a chord - for all of us. Chris, can you please come to Australia as soon as you are able? Be in the front row.

There used to be a show on CMT called "Crossroads"... they'd pair up a Country artist and a Rock artist, usually actual musicians not "pop" stars... great guitar player/singer with another, etc... this song is one I could see him doing with John Mayer, with Mayer doing the cover and Stapleton as sideman. And I've always wanted to hear Stapleton cover Mayer's song "Gravity". Sadly, I don't think that show is still around.

I can't believe anything so smooth and sophisticated is not from the 1940's to early 1950's..They just don't make that music anymore - but Chris Stapleton did..The return of serious music for thinking adults..Just WOW.
