When I was 12, I was helping my father frame a house. He tried to demonstrate how safe a nail-gunner was by squeezing the trigger without pressing it against anything. For those of you that don't know how a nail-gunner works, it is supposed to only shoot a nail when pressed against something. Well, ours must have been faulty because it shot a nail half an inch away from my foot, bounced off the concrete and into the distance. After, we stood there looking at each other. Needless to say, I stuck to cleanup duty after that. Not a home-improvement injury, but it did scare the ever-loving sh** out of me.

It was a church remodeling project, but yeah, I threw out some old 2x4's into a small dumpster. The boards were longer than the length of the dumpster, so I tried to move my hand out of the way after I tossed the boards, but they smacked down on my hand. What I realized afterwards was that there was a nail sticking out of the bottom of the board and it sliced through my wrist. I still have that scar and will have it until I'm dead.

I feel like if they’d let him talk he’d explain how it was like, leftover bits of drywall or something completely related to home DIY stuff and it would make perfect sense. Mine isn't home improvement but working, I have 2 stories. One I was pushing a metal bumper onto a F350 and it got stuck. I asked for help and a buddy and I pushed it in on the count of 3. My finger was behind it just barely and I cut of the meaty tip of it, it eventually grew back but it was ugly for weeks. The second I almost went deaf when I was welding a rocker panel and a bit of slag fell in my ear. I was very very luck that day.

i have a bad one that's still healing now. Not necessarily home improvement. More like Chris' situation. My father and I flip houses he buys at auctions but recently started accepting job where we go to a house and clean up/demo. One of the jobs required us to dispose of an old engine block. My left hand got caught between it and the dump trailer. Ended up with a bad laceration on the palm of my hand that needed 7 stitches. The stitches are out but the hands still healing.

hitting yourself in the face with something hurts so much, plus it's embarrassing if someone sees it. It is always funny to look back at though. last time I punched myself in the face was about 2-3 months ago when I had to put chains on my tires to get home. literally impossible to drive up even a small hill. I was pulling on it to tighten it, then because it was wet from the snow the end of the chain slipped out of my hands and I punched myself in the face so hard I fell in the ditch. Got a little scratch, but not too bad. first thing I did was look around to see if anyone saw me 🤣 got my priorities straight! 🤣
