I'm not convinced the affair with Peterson or Watts was the prime motive. I think both men are sociopaths who don't develop deep attachments to others. I think in both cases the wives were pregnant and they were looking at losing freedom/money, and simply decided to replace their current partner with someone new for a more fun/exciting life. I don't think it was the affair in the sense they weren't any more deeply in love with the new woman than the wives they killed. I think it was more like a child with a shiny new object and eventually the mistress would have been in the wife's place where they were discarded. I think it's just it's not so easy to find someone who would go along with what they want, but if they had gotten away with the killings, down the road probably would have done the same thing with another new woman if they came across someone else who seemed a better match.

I think the big change was more the motive. They just happened to find someone new at a time they were seeking that. Wanting a big change I believe was the motive.

I was with someone like this. I think they have the makings of being murderers, they then go through a process that leads to it but some back away, fearing they won't get away with it or coming to terms with balancing double lives. Or finding a more normal solution, if often one that still harms and takes advantage of an innocent person. Malignant narcissists.

My narcissistic (now ex) husband began using steroids when our first child was still an infant then quickly spiraled into a midlife crisis- culminating in having an affair while I was pregnant with our second child with a one year old on my hip. He was 37 at the time. He went absolutely insane. So callous and cruel- when the chris watts case happened I straight up confronted him about being concerned that he would do something similar. Even though that affair was over. He called me the crazy one, of course. I don’t blame the steroids, he has an antisocial/narcissistic personality, but they definitely exacerbated the situation. He felt like he was the hottest thing walking.

Many, many young women who are killed are described by their friends and family as "bubbly." Watch enough KZbin videos and you will hear that description over and over and over. It must mean something; I take it to mean they are the kind of person who appears to put on a happy face and accept everything from everybody--which is basically a way for men who are so inclined to take as permission to mistreat them, abuse them, kill them.

On a much smaller scale, according to my observations, there does exist a type of man who attempts a "do over" scenario when divorcing. I've notice many go on to ignoring and cutting off support and contact with their children from their prior relationships, and attempt to re-boot with a new partner. While not nearly as extreme as uxoricide, it beggars belief that someone could reject their own offspring in this way.

I'm still wondering why this is barely discussed, hardly looked into and was basically overlooked or just something insignificant and unimportant to the detectives in that case. That's just weird to specifically look something up, especially that specific type of content for someone who had "no idea". I often think that when it comes to true crime cases and the infatuation vs interest variable in these cases, can vary depending on the individual. Adding in the mainstream media as another factor (which often tends to glorify them at times), resulting in these "copycat, money hungry, attention &/or thrill seeking" types to come out to get their 15 minutes of fame.
@winterlynn9012
@winterlynn9012 4 жыл бұрын
@@mamabear-9.18.18 I think the reason it wasn't investigated much is because Nicole Kessigner googled Amber Frey after the murders and once people figured out she was the woman Chris was having the affair with. By that time the media and public were aware there was a mistress and they figured out who she was and were tweeting and speculating that it was possible she was" the next Amber Frey" if I'm not mistaken she googled first "Who was Amber Frey" which its possible she didn't know. (Giving her age Nicole would've been around 14 when the Scott Peterson case was in the media and i was around the same age and while I remember the Peterson case I wasn't familiar with details of it or Amber Frey either ) personally if I saw people comparing me to someone i was unfamiliar with i would Google them as well to see why. As for why she googled how much Amber made on the book can't say for sure but I can't blame her either. If I realized I was suddenly going from a "regular person" to someone in the midst of a high profile case where the media and people in general are suddenly interested in what i have to say i probably would've googled all that stuff too. Can say its in bad taste but it doesn't point to guilt. Now if she had googled that stuff prior to the murders? Yeah I'd say it would be suspicious to say the least.

It’s just very strange. I think many have been cheated on or committed adultery, but resorting to murder is obviously very extreme. What brings it to that extreme is a question mark. To murder someone your mind has to be pretty whacked. It may be more understood that someone that was cheated on has lashed out in an uncontrollable rage against the cheater. We see that all the time from violence, revenge, retaliation on up to murder. What is more unusual is the adulterer is not only cheating on their partner, but they kill their partner on top of that to get them out of the picture. What makes them think they could get away with that is beyond me.

Extremely interesting analysis Dr Grande. The ‘Do Over’ is an extremely immature motive, but it certainly would explain a reason for the murders. I think its men Because there more sexual driven then women people who have high sex drives addicted to sex are linked to criminals which Ted Bundy serial killer expresses how many of the criminals locked up allmostly had sex addictions like cheating having affairs from whatever they can get or watching porn till it bores then leads to higher more sinister sex like pedophilia its discusting how way back in the Uk okayed it to have sex with children i know thats another subject but it does link to your question how its always men who commits these sinister discusting acts due to way high sex drives&as Ted Bundy said &unfortunately alot of these screwed up minds were abused sexually&neglected so... so many of these factors which are complex ends up carrying on that abusive cycle because of unhealed issues they adapted, calloused their hurt heart&pains&normalized it by becoming less empathic&going to the dark side of those sinister acts.

@@iamlight1 I may believe so because some women can have some high testosterone leading to high levels of sex drive or "in heat of passion" as the courts use to dismiss murder cases of spouses due to cheating&crazy shocker fact you can get lots of testosterone from lots of heavy liplocking from all the salava swap lol idk i read some studies about that lol but anyways i believe that of a woman highly sexually active&in high levels of testosterone could play a factor.

I have often read that men set up a new relationship before they move to break off their existing one. I wonder if having a new "love" available made both men more ready to act on a violent impulse, especially since the existing relationship was bringing the financial burden of an additional child. Also, I think although the pregnancy could be said to concern a fetus, it would be all right to say that both men killed their own child.

I lived in Northern California at the time of the Laci Peterson murder, and I automatically assumed Scott committed it due to his seemingly uncaring and cold behavior about his wife being missing. I don't usually assume someone is guilty right off the bat. It was Scott's demeanor. I just knew--very unusual.

This is a much better analysis than the one you gave for Scott Peterson. However, I am a little biased and I believe Scott Peterson is as guilty as Chris Watts! The reason why Chris and NK's relationship was more intense and more frequent is because they were co-workers. And also lived in close proximity. Amber Frey lived in Fresno CA, and Scott lived in Modesto so they lived further apart and they weren't colleagues. So hooking up would have been more challenging for Scott and Amber. Also most of the affair between Chris and NK was conducted when Shannan was out of town in NC, giving that relationship more opportunity to grow and intensify.

You brought up the similarities in names, which reminds me that the last name Peterson seems to be overrepresented in high profile murder (husband & wife) investigations (ex. Scott, Drew, Michael). Ive wondered if the media is somehow hypervigilant to this name, is it just a coincidence (afterall 3 isn't really that many lol), or maybe I'M the one who's paying too much attention to it. I don't make anything of it, just an interesting idea. Anyway, I also love playing the "if I got paid a million dollars for making the right choice, which would I choose" game. This is interesting from a statistical standpoint. I didn't realize these types of murders were on the rare side. I thought it was more common for husband having an affair (during a certain time of their life) to want a new start instead of going the divorce and child support route -especially when you take in their personality traits, etc. Interesting video Dr Grande. I had an idea. Watts and Shannan maybe put a lot of pressure on themselves to come across as the perfect family and as money got tighter, the pressure to look perfect became greater. Watts may have resented the need to be perfect, and the pressure, and sought to completely destroy that image of the perfect family, including his perfect daughters. Or he may have killed as an attempt to preserve his good reputation, when his wife wanted to leave. He killed all witnesses and expected to get away with it, and then be with his mistress. He is an evil man, disgusting. He bears full responsibility for his callous, inhuman acts. Those poor little girls deserved a good father, that loved and protected them.

Oh, Dr. Grande, you'll never know what it's like to be a survivor(wife) of a husband a (Cop) who's having an affair that '' "You" aren't even aware of as your taking care of (our) daughter who is dying of cancer as a teenager and still working full time only to be told by said husband that "I can't take anymore", and he walks out leaving you to take care of everything so he can be with his mistress. And one night having a lucid dream of being stabbed to death by same husband after he has left. And then being diagnosed within a 3 week period of all that with Stage 3 Cancer. Try going thru all that in a 12 month period and surviving and still having some sense left, tho' not a family as the child died and the husband walked on to live happily ever after. I'm a survivor now twice of Cancer and I really believe that dream was a warning that saved my life, tho' I would have gladly given it up for our daughters life. Chew on that for awhile, sir. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and helping us grow in our understanding tho' Experience still Rules all.

I like most people believe he did it. I find it tragic that someone got away butchering two people.

I've noticed that in several high profile cases where the husband was having an affair and killed his wife that they were part of religious families and communities that strongly stigmatized extramarital affairs. This was true for Chris Watts, Scott Peterson and Chris Coleman each of which were likely to be ostracized if the news of their affairs came to light. I think the social consequences of being honest likely played a role in their decision to murder their wives.

I wondered how Watts could live with himself, having known what the unconditional love from his little girls felt like and then knowing he deliberately and painfully ended their lives (with plenty of time on that drive to find a different solution to his perceived problem). Same as with that odious little shite Anthony Todt. I suppose it's an indication of just how deviant they are, that they're able to live with the memories they have before, during and after the murders.

I agree! I think they both just wanted to start over without paying a ton of money to a lawyer, dealing with ex wives and kids and just move on. They get to play the victim, get sympathy and not lose a dime..they are delusional and selfish. LIke they wouldn't have any problems with a new person? The excitement of their affairs would've been short lived because they are not sharing every day real life and responsibilities with that person. The wife sitting at home is who gets the brunt of it. The piece on the side gets the good time, good mood all the time, happy guy. The poor wife gets the miserable, moody, resentful jerk who forgot what he signed up for. They are both right where they belong. May they have a long, long life.
