I'm replacing the old small gauges with 2 5/8" gauges by AutoMeter. Got the oil gauge installed today. On to the water temp tomorrow. Don't know about the voltage yet. I bought this ol' 1972 Chevy C10 a week ago and haven't taken the time to check the lights for a source of power to the gauge. The truck is an absolute rust bucket, but all I'm wanting is a cool old driver. Thanks for this video. You gave me the confidence to do this gauge install.

Nice thanks, good little tips along the way, like if oil pressure line leaks a bit don't panic and re-do just tighten a bit first for a stop leak, to see if that works. Good stuff on all the wiring too.

I enjoy your videos. They are simple, direct and no bs. You dont try to complicate anything. I wish you were working on a '66 chevelle but most of the videos I use. Just one thing on this video, that extra wire on the splice you made should be cleared or cut shorter. It could short out under the dash. Keep bringin the vids.

You might want to mount the gauge cluster facing the driver. This makes the gauges easier to read from the drivers seat and eliminate "parallax view" inaccuricies. A grommet through the firewall is well done except sealing it so water does not leak through it. Otherwise, well done !

Do the water plugs always look like that or can it be with a bolt head I have a 1981 ford f150 ranger and I unscrewed a bolt with a bolt head and idk if what I did is correct

So these types of gauges are for older cars? On modern cars like the coolant temp gauge the sender wires go first to the computer then to the gauge that is part of the factory gauge cluster. So after market gauge installation is a bit tricky on modern cars.

At 1:17 in your video; you can see an electric temp sensor in the side of the engine head. This is where the manual temp sensor should go. It will give you a better idea of how hot the engine is actually.

Wrong...anywhere in the cooling system...these dont measure engine temp...they measure cooling temp...if u want engine temp it is called a pyrometer...

Wire nuts on mobile applications can be troublesome. They are not made for the vibration. Solder with shrink tube works best.

You mentioned using an Amp meter when you have an external regulator. Can you use the Volt meter with an external regulator? What would happen if you did?

Nice and useful video - I also have installed a mechanical pressure gauge and air bubbles in the pressure line - now I see a significantly higher pressure compared with my original electrical gauge - because of the air in the line ? Thanks !

purge the air bubbles out.. they don’t affect the gauge and if they did the pressure would be lower because air compresses

as long as those lines don’t get too close to exhaust they last forever. they are poly lines and idiots bash them because they don’t know anything.. but run a copper line if you have one or can afford it

Sir. I'm struggling to find where a Wire that comes from my Engine Harness Terminates. It is much different that all the other Wires. It has a White Cloth Cover. Do you have any thoughts ? Ted 1972 Buick GS.

that is a resisted down 6 volt wire that goes to the positive side of the coil.. from the ignition ON position.. that is your main ignition wire.. if you are running the old style coil.. then you are good.. if you are running HEI or electronic ignition you MUST remove that wire and replace it with a 12gauge stranded wire (factory style)

Chris Craft yeah it's a big block. I bet I'm gonna have to use the reducer fitting like you showed in the video. I have it put together in there it's just kinda funny looking. And some pictures on Google show that hole to the left being an oil hole. But if you run your car without a plug then it's obviously not part of the oil delivery system

Just an FYI everyone...DO NOT USE THAT plastic tubing get some 1/8" copper tubing....As you can over tighten the nut an cut it and over time it will become brittle..Think a minute how much of a mess that would be in side. High pressure and "HOT" oil

I would not recommend using the supplied plastic line, in most auto parts chain stores like autozone and advanced they have a separate kit for the oil pressure that has copper line and fittings. Just make sure you put the line in as far as it will go before tightening it. the copper will out last the vehicle, where the plastic line will fail within 2 years.

pull the cable out of the back of the speedometer and see if it turns when the car is moving .. try to grab the square tube a little and see if it’s not broken... ( make sure it’s connected)

Wow on the gauge you just use two rinses wrenches to tighten it that's why the threaded nipple part out of the back of the cage at the bottom of it has a spot to put a wrench or you can just hold on to it with your hand and break your gauge if you don't know what you're doing and turn it too tight because you are showing people how to install something correctly and not doing it correctly

WARNING....if you have a later model car or truck you may well NOT have access ports for oil and or water! Find out before buying gauges. These videos are always demonstrating install on OLD cars and trucks for a reason. My 2013 Silverado has NO access ports for after market gauges and I have since learned that the newer the car the less likely you will find access ports.
