MV Queen Elizabeth is such a gorgeous ship and appeals to a love of Art Deco that was generated by reading about and visiting RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach numerous times in my native California. She stands out in my memory, even after travelling aboard all three current Queens, though prior to provisional travel aboard Queen Anne in August 2024. Despite being aboard just after COVID restrictions and for the six-and-a-half-day duration of this "Sailing into the Sun" Cruise from Southampton, there still wasn't enough time to fully appreciate what you lovingly captured in your video. The carpeting is indeed stunning throughout the ship, as is the Britannia Restaurant with its plinths, lighting and columns that were abundant in other public areas too. The Queen's Grille Restaurant would be lovely to enjoy on this ship and the decor is simply breathtaking. Cafe Carinthia will need to be enjoyed more on what will hopefully be another cruise aboard. While a cruise is supposed to be relaxing, this one certainly wasn't for good reasons. First of all, the lecturers were simply outstanding. Chief Architect and Designer of RMS Queen Mary 2, Stephen Payne, was aboard and gave a lecture each morning whose topics included Titanic, Lusitania and Mauretania, QE2, Royal Yacht Britannia, and QM2, along with a Q&A session. Another great lecturer was BBC Foreign Correspondent, Margaret Gilmore, who discussed the Russian spy poisonings, fall of the Berlin Wall, and other recent geopolitical events. The entertainment and crew aboard ship were just lovely, as always with Cunard, and also contributed to our experience, not to mention the friends we made aboard, who helped turn a leisurely cruise into a party that always ended up on Starboard Deck 10 outside Churchill's. Our coterie expanded and hovered around the smoking section, sometimes including special guests like the comedian and other entertainers who joined in as we partied like Princess Margaret. This is a great tribute to a great ship. Your book on MV Queen Elizabeth was purchased aboard and signed by the Captain, Margaret Gilmore and Stephen Payne, who knew my face early on - particularly after mentioning how meeting him, as a lover of the old liners, was like a sci-fi geek meeting William Shatner at a Star Trek Convention.

While QE is modern from the outside. Inside she has a small ship feel and art decor style makes her a classic cruise ship.

Finally - someone as obsessed with cruise vessel carpeting as I am! It's such a subtle item that can really change a space and lend cohesion to a vessel. Have to say the QE looking spiffier than ever!

I like both! On nights where the formal dining is crowded I tend to head to the more buffet-y style food places

Just disembarked from Queen Elizabeth today in Brisbane. It was a fantastic trip from Melbourne. We also watched your lecture about the early Cunard Ships they had playing on the in room tv's and it was very informative. I also managed to pick up your book "photographic history of P&O Cruises" from the onboard bookshop which I'm looking forward to reading. Great video Chris and I always look forward to your ship tours.

I don't know where you live - but I'm in the UK and have received an email from Cunard today launching Queen Elizabeth cruises starting in March 2021. There are short 3, 4 and 7 night cruises around the British Isles at ludicrously low prices - and I do mean ludicrous.

I’ve always been one of those people who said “nope Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria aren’t proper cunard ships And only Queen Mary 2 is a true cunarder.” BUT I’ve been reading a brilliant book about the newest Queen Elizabeth and I have generally fallen in love with her. She may not look like an old school ocean liner of the past on the outside but she sure does on the inside.
@ChrisFrameOfficial4 жыл бұрын
She sure does! Which book?

Chris Frame its an actual cunard brand book called Queen Elizabeth by miles cowsill. It’s about all 3 Queen Elizabeth cunarders.

Interesting video. It's quite lovely as modern ships go but nothing compared to the highly detailed views we are now seeing of RMS Titanic. Now Titanic and her sister ships were truly beautiful. The flooring on these ships was truly lovely as was the stain glass and woodwork. So much more time consuming attention to detail and quality materials. Even in the Queen Elizabeth one can easily see where the cost cutting is. I'm a realist and understand that builders could not pay woodworkers enough to do this kind of work today. Sad that RMS Olympic was not carefully mothballed and kept intact for a later era when she would have been fully appreciated. The Queen Elizabeth very safe and is OK in contrast to these earlier ships.

Has the Veuve Cliquot Champagne bar gone?
@ChrisFrameOfficial3 жыл бұрын
QE's was never really separated from the Cafe Carinthia - it had a similar design to that aboard QV but was never distinguished from the main lounge. I think that the champagne is now served in the Midships Bar.

No. It’s formal but it’s for all ages. Cunard do tend to attract an older clientele though.

when do you recommend booking a box in the theatre ... before getting on the ship or while on board?
@ChrisFrameOfficial5 жыл бұрын
Probably once aboard so you can check out what shows are on. Unless you get access to that before your voyage - I am unsure as Voyage Personaliser is different in different regions.
@mr.drymartini59435 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, you can make the booking on board. No need to do it in advance. It is better to try different boxes during daytime-venues in theatre. Some of the boxes have a "heavy" AC, it might be unpleasant cold during evening-venues. So check the boxes during daytime. I wish you a great voyage on QE!

The decor and curtains and furniture look like an old American brothel..Or the Titanic..The Queen Victorian which I’ve traveled on I personally didn’t like that reproduction style.It’s dated now . It’s the decor not the carpets that need replacing that’s what makes her drab .I do like the look of the laundry.

Is anyone else disappointed that Cunard doesn't quite hit the mark with their ships anymore? The QM2, QE, QV, they're basically council flats on a hull, very boxy like every cruise ship nowadays. And the interior layout very hodgepodge. There are aspects to the interior decor that are pleasing but again it's like they go overboard and over embellish. Is it simply that they are trying to attract the American client which in itself is rather tacky?
@baritonebynight Жыл бұрын
I wish they wouldn't have named her Queen Elizabeth and saved that name only for true ocean liners....not a common cruise ship. Call her Queen Camilla for all I care.

Hey Sandra, You may have missed it in the title and intro but this video is all about the QE’s 2018 refit. As carpets are what was - in many areas - mainly what was changed that’s naturally what I’m going to describe. I’d suggest you take a look at this video for a more comprehensive tour of the ship: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJO3gnujdrypjtE or purchase our Queen Elizabeth book at this link: books.google.com.au/books/about/Queen_Elizabeth.html?id=TjAaYAAACAAJ&source=kp_book_description&redir_esc=y
