As you've probably learned from this, double stick tape + coolant is a no-no. Coolant will attack the adhesive and make it useless. Double stick works great for dry applications like plastics, we use it daily for cutting large renshape parts. It kinda works for wet jobs if you seal around the edge of the part with hot glue, and even then you can't break through the plate or the coolant will get in there. Machine seems to be coming along well though! Excited to see how the covers turn out.

Yea, I figured it would hold up a little better though! At least the superglue worked well.

That's impressive to go to so much trouble and quality craftsmanship on this project! I have worked in quality shops where they discarded the proper covers and guards!!!

I can believe the HSM strategy now. It seems to go faster after you dialed in the rpm/feed. Great work.

not sure if you have found the source of your vertical deflection(surface finish issues from earlier) but think I may have spotted the culprit...try tying the 3 spindle mounts together on the sides with some 1/4" plate ....the thickness of the bore and end mounts vs the length of offset is probably allowing just enough flex to cause the chatter...more then strong enough not to notice it till under a cutting load. nice work as always m8!

It's a kit from www.polarbearforge.com/tools.html which is cheaper than getting the material cut locally. It went together easily and works great!

Chris may I ask what the dimension are? Plates, rails, ball screws... and what steppers do you use for each axis. Thank you.

It was a .125" diameter 2 flute, uncoated. 19,200 RPM, 45IPM, .125" DOC and .05" WOC. One of these days I'll push it until it breaks; I'm sure it can go much faster. :)
