Great message Chris and good job getting both boats together for a comparison. I was shocked at how well the Mayfly paddles, both speed and tracking. It doesn't hold a candle to the maneuverability of the Coosa HD, like you said, but few fishing kayaks can. I'd bet there isn't another fishing kayak (over 11'), from any manufacturer, that turns like the Coosa or Coosa HD.

Great videos, Chris! I agree with you, you can't really decide without demo'ing the boat!

I have to ask wht your opinion is on the Coosa HD vs the Old Town Sportsman 120? Stability, mobility and gliding?

I just purchase a Mayfly recently and I am getting water build up in the rear cargo after only on the water a few hours. Nothing rough just small ponds. Is this normal?

I might have to get a Mayfly next year. I love everything about it.

I live in Oklahoma and mostly bass fish on big lakes, small lakes, and ponds. Sometimes the river but it’s very slow moving. Would you recommend the mayfly or the big rig? I’ve never kayak fished so I did demo the big rig and the Coosa hd. And preferred the big rig for standing up in. I was able to stand in the Coosa but as I’m new to this I wasn’t as confident doing so. I didn’t get a chance to try the mayfly. Any help in deciding would be greatly appreciated. Also factor in that I can get the big rig hd at a discounted price at my local store. 1699, mayfly is 1999.

While i love both boats, if you can save that much on the big rig, by all means do it. They are great boats and have a super shallow draft, my only nitpick is they are heavy out of the water, but there isn't a better standing boat out there to me!

Chris Funk, the Feral One hey thanks for the reply, that was my one complaint when I did the demo was the weight of it. They have the Coosa hd and Cuda he marked down as well so I’m still debating. I may have to just demo again before I make a final decision.

If you do try out the Coosa HD, i can say it is very stable for its size and maneuverability! It is a different kind of stable and you grow into trusting yourself while standing. I can throw castnets and shoot bowfishing bows off of them and i am not the most stable person, at best !

Chris Funk, the Feral One one more question for you before I pull the trigger on one, I’m leaning towards the may fly because it seems to be that middle ground between the Coosa hd and the big rig. Is that a safe assumption to make? The Coosa seems more towards a moving water river boat and I don’t fishe those as much. I’m mostly bass fishing lakes, ponds and in a rare occasion I may fish a river but here in Oklahoma they are pretty slow moving. I’m 5’10 220lbs. I’ve been saving so I do t mind spending the extra for the mayfly. Do those side rod holder with the reel cut out fit bait caster and spinning reels as well? Thanks for the answers. I’m new to kayak fishing so this will be my first one but I’m really excited. Really love your informative content!

Chris Funk, the Feral One damn it now I just watched your video on the Liska. So many options I’m overwhelmed haha.

Another great video! how well do 9ft fly rods fit horizontally on the Coosa HD? I like the design of the Mayfly but am a little concerned how it would maneuver on whitewater.

Questions for you: I'm just a novice that enjoys floating. Can you tell me which kayak would be least expensive that is lighweight, has the nice seat, and has storage? Thank you.

Is that a custom paint on that Coosa? I can’t find it anywhere

yes, all 3 of these were customs. some of our favorites!

Chris, could you say how tall you are and approximate weight? How much bigger of a guy do you think the Coosa HD would handle before the Mayfly would be the better choice?
@ChrisFunktheFeralOne6 жыл бұрын
i am 5'9" and in this video about 240, i have been in it up to 280 without issues at all. i have a weight limits video where you can see the effects of weight on the HD but i would think anyone would do fine in it up to 325 or better, hope this helps!

I understand but when are you going to make it affordable for begginers?
@ChrisFunktheFeralOne7 жыл бұрын
i began in used, cheap boats and worked my way up to what i paddle now. i am very thankful for what i have and the lessons i learned along the way. these are very expensive but there is no maintenance, upkeep, insurance or massive depreciation in a good kayak. get the best you can afford, it will pay for itself in the long run.

Scupper hole plugs would make the mayfly bone dry.
@ChrisFunktheFeralOne7 жыл бұрын
yes sir, but in moving water i need it to drain quickly so i rarely ever use plugs.

What u would pick between the Mayfly and the coosa fd. I know they are both different kayaks but I'd like to see what u think between the two of them...
@ChrisFunktheFeralOne7 жыл бұрын
Julien Tremblay , the FD is a great kayak, but for me, a paddler, i would choose the Mayfly hands down. It was a great paddling, extremely stable kayak and i loved the open layout for sure. Hope this helps!

@@ChrisFunktheFeralOne what about between the mayfly and coosa HD? im a paddler too and im only 140lbs, i prefer standing while fishing but the mayfly is heavier
@ChrisFunktheFeralOne6 жыл бұрын
@@deanazarnush884 , check my vids sir, i have a side by side comparison on them! i loved the mayfly but it is very heavy as you said. the Liska is a lot like the mayfly, but lighter and a lot less expensive! the Coosa HD is a great boat though and better in moving water than the liska or the mayfly.
