You sure took the most convoluted route trying to get into Lincoln’s Tomb. This is the second most visited cemetery in the US. Only Arlington has more visitors. At 35:32 you were going right past the entrance. Also, you were stopped at a light literally next to the Dana Thomas house which is a Frank Lloyd Wright designed building.

Only visited northwest and north parts of the city-not really much of a tour of a city to only hit 1/3 of it with a 45 minute video. Add to the fact that most of the crime happens in the areas you hit. Didn't go to Leland Grove, Southern View, Koke Mill, Jerome, Rochester, Chatham, West Lake, or so many other spots where the majority of middle class live.

Born there, raised in Grandview on Eleanor St. went to Lanphier High. Always enjoyed the fact I as a 12 year old could ride my bike everywhere, Lincolns Tomb, Oak Ride cemetary all the old Civil war related graves, Lincolns park, down town, go to the old Coney Island resturant and get a couiple of thier famous chilli dogs. etc. Earned money for school clothes by working at the State Fair for 3 seasons selling cokes, Frosty Malts at the Grandstand during the tractor pulls, midget car races, horse races, concerts there at night. Smoked my 1st pot there, my first kiss there, my 1st awkward dancing all at about 15. All in all I guess it's not a bad town, just never very many jobs there. Joined the Army at 17, was in for 09 years. Went home when I got out and it was dead. Left, came out west here to Utah and have only returned to visit perhaps 4 times in 30 years. But I will always call it home...

@BADMONTESS
@BADMONTESS 9 ай бұрын
Yes, very much so. Many others and I believe Utah is one of the very best states to live in. Look up the stats. I have been here since 1993 and if you are looking for a change, this could be the place for you. It's a conservative Red state overall, yet Salt Lake City is more liberal. I live about 80 miles away by Provo and the scenery, people saying hello, abundant jobs, perfect place to resettle to. As a matter of fact a highly successful dentist from Springfield (he lived by the lake) just moved to here. I'm a tile contractor, working at his brothers house and we talked about moving from Springfield with his family and he does not regret it. He has the kids in snow sking lessons up at Sundance, schools are friendly. We have gorgeous deserts, snow capped mountains. We are getting pretty crowded, so many people have found out about this hidden jewel. Google "Moab, Lake Powell, Zions National Park, Pink Sand Dunes etc. I liked Springfield, but once I found out there is much more going on in our country, Springfield, even Illinois seemed lackluster, why die in a bland place. @@lonnieclemens8028

While Springfield certainly has some not so nice areas, it is really cool if you’re a US history buff. My parents took my sister and I down to Springfield when I was in 3rd grade and did a book report on Lincoln. Toured the Capitol, Lincoln’s home, and saw his tomb where you get to rub his nose for good luck.

An interesting thing about Springfield is that it’s basically out in the middle of nowhere so many American have never visited due to the distance from the east and west coast. Wow...how interesting to me a native of Illinois. Great video of what appears to be a quiet town with pretty tree lined streets in most residential areas. The state government buildings are well done but overall it looks kind of sleepy for such a large population state. Maybe that is why nobody I knew ever seemed to go there from Chicagoland. Chris is spot on concerning the negative effect of high taxes. Check out his quad cities series of Davenport and Bettendorf Iowa with Rock Island and Moline Illionois and you will really see the difference.

The concept behind this sort of video is cool. That said, this was a poor representation of Springfield. Springfield is an everyday middle america small city/big small town. Most people have their teeth, a cell phone, and the internet... so ease the hate. We don't have mountains or the ocean, and yes, of course we wish we did!! But Springfield has some cool sites, and probably more than most towns our size. You succeeded in showing - maybe two?! Sorry, but people who live here know there are signs everywhere to the gate of Lincoln's Tomb. There are classic 100 year old buildings INSIDE the fairgrounds. There are beautiful city parks, Lincoln and Washington being the largest. Yes, Lincoln's Home. University of IL at Springfield. The lakeside zoo. The first orphange building for African American children. Camp Butler National Cemetery. Route 66 sites. Governor's Mansion. Frank Lloyd Wright's Dana Thomas House. The Old State Capitol and the New Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.... Anyway, nice tour of some non-descript neighborhod streets. Better luck filming Peoria.

Was curious about Springfield and loved this tour! Would love for you to do my hometown of Albany, NY sometime! Living there then moving to Chicago, I'd say I think New York's capital city is much nicer that my newly adopted state's, I'm biased, but my Chicagoan fiancée agrees :) Springfield seems way less dense than Albany, even though it's significantly larger in population. Though it does seem to have some nice tree-lined streets and rolling parks. Those blighted properties, however...sheesh. Anyway, seeing about the horseshoe sandwich in the other comment makes me want to visit, alone! (oh and Abe too!)

Y Childhood was spent in Spfld. I can remember being able to walk from my Gramma's house to all overtown and still be home in time for lunch, go back out again and back home for supper and not fear for my safety, but I can assure you that she has grown so large I probably couldnt even find my childhood home let alone the home my children grew up in. SO SAD!

I love seeing how you totally avoid the west and south sides of the city. Great journalistic integrity. What happened to seeing the other entries to Oak Ridge? You only show the foot path from Lincoln Park. And sorry, showing Calvary Cemetery's entrance as Oak Ridge's doesn't count.

@@ChrisHarden there used to be an old creepy gate entrance to the cemetery at one end of that street that had a scary looking old statue that sat a few feet behind it. Supposedly the statue would open its eyes or come to life at a certain time on Halloween night or something, but we just used it as an excuse to get together and drink, wonder around and other things in our teens. Idk if they still do it nowadays because I guess I'm old but we had fun. There was a small parking area alittle bit before the creepy gate on the opposite side of the street that people would use as a make out spot because of how secluded that road is and gets at night as well. They've changed the road now though and it's been a week or so since I watched your video so I dont remember what it looked like at the time you pass it but you cant get to the little parking area anymore and the gate has been replaced with a nicer one so I doubt people really go there nowadays.

If you have to move to Springfield, try to move to Rochester. Rochester is touching Springfield so it's no problem getting to anything you need, also not a long commute to anything. Rochester Schools are the best around, best attitude.

Chicago is the power of the state and get most of the funding. Literally 80% of the state lives in the Chicago metro area (every city, town, and village within around 50 miles of the city). Chicago has the best downtown and convenience, but the city is run by crooks, taxes are ridiculous, and the whole city isn't exactly the safest. You'll know a dangerous area when you're in it though.

I lived in Chicago for 2 years and loved it. Worked for the fed, met and married my husband there, first child born there. I have loved every place I have ever lived. On a farm, a town of 500, a town of 1-2000, a city of 98k and Chicago. I now live in a town on the Northern part of AL. Life is wonderful if you look for the good in it and not concentrate on the bad. I will be 84 next month and am looking forward to new things to do, see and read.
